My family has had 2 panasonics die within the past year. And, these can't play SVCD.

Go get yourself a Pioneer 333, 343, 434, etc. Bout a hundred bucks and they'll play anything except MP3s. They do have a nice, slim, silver model out now that gets good reviews and plays MP3s, but I can't remember the model number. And silver is ugly.

Watching a 30 minute pixelated piece of crap vs a high resolution MPEG2 on DVD-R: $1.50
Not caring when your friend decides to never give it back cause it looks great: Priceless

SVCD is far from pixelated crap. Ever check out an SVCD DVD rip with CCE compression side by side with the original DVD. You'd be hard pressed to tell which is which in a blind test.

Check out SVCD samples at www.vcdhelp.com

And if you are encoding VHS source such as old family videos or even capturing cable TV...I digress. SVCD is the only responsible choice.

Me thinks you had sour grapes for breakfast, they probably came free with your Panasonic.

Here is the correct link for the Panasonic DVD-RV31K

Also the price has been updated .. $99.88 (no rebate) ......Look for the $5 off
coupon that is floating around the deal sites and it makes this item
a killer value at $94.88 shipped (No tax for me here in CA!)

I ordered late Friday eve and I already have the confirmation
with UPS tracking that it will be delivered to Tuesday!
