Panaflos for $3.19 or 10/$27.50

www.bgmicro.com has those panaflos back in again. bgmicro is fine, i've ordered some cold cathode lights/inverters from them, along with these panaflos and have had no problems. got a busted inverter once and they just sent me a new one, didn't ask me to send the broken one back.

the product id is FAN1003, but if you goto the home page, click on "shop online," select "Fans" under the product search pull-out, it'll be on the first page.

a question i have is, i know these have only two-pin connectors, and require some adapters. last time i ordered it cheap from some place but forgot where, anybody know what the heck i'm talking about?

EDIT: Shipping is $6 for packages under 4 pounds, and it'll probably still be under 4 pounds for 10.

is it just me, or did the price of panaflo L1A's double at svcompucycle? i bought a bunch of L1A fans a couple of months ago and i believe they were about $3 each, unless i'm hallucinating.

It's not you; its a true story. I got in on the "10 for $25.00" deal a while back that thay had running. Of course, that was a "sale price". 😉 I'm sure it was very effective for them in drawing in new customers. I'm not complaining either because I have ordered other items from them in the past and they have always been pretty good and have reasonable shipping rates; a rare find nowadays it seems.
However, if you check around, there are other places (do a search in this Hot Deal forum) that are selling them for ~$3-3.50.
I'll also add that you can get an "NMD" fan at SVC for a really good price now; $2.50 each or 5 for $11.00. Some say it is a decent "alternative" for the panaflo L1A. I haven't any personal experience to back that up though.

I just received 10 of these "NMB" 80mm fans from SVC.

Instead of getting "dual ball bearings" fan motor I received "brushless fan motor."
Also, they advertised these NMB fans as 0.100 Ampere / 1.2 Watt but the ones they sent me
are .06 Ampere / .72 Watt. Needless to say I'm pretty pissed about this! :|

I don't blame you. Did you talk to them and ask about the problem? I have had absolutely no trouble with them and am curious what they did or did not do? Sounds like they sent the wrong product in which case they should rectify it immediatly. Curious.....!
$2.50 was a rip.
C'mon, you don't actually believe that do you? Take a look around and find them for anything less than ~$3.00 each now. How can you say that the $2.50 was a "rip".

I've had great dealings at SVC on misshipped products, I bought some 80mm grills once, and they sent 120mm's by accident, a quick email sorted it out, and I didn't even have to send the 120mm's back! They just sent me the 80mm grills.

Excuse me while I ask a dumb question...what's the difference? Air flow?

Thanks Jenova314
this is hot. I just ordered 10 @ 2.75 each.
Case-Mod dose'nt carry thses any more. They replaced them w/the "NMB" that gaard was unhappy with.
Also, I checked one other vendor for the Panaflo and they where "ON Sale" for $19.95 each!!!😕

Well, it was an exaggerated statement, but there were some post back about $1 fans, both 80mm and 90mm.

Compared to those I guess $2.50 could be "overpriced"

Here are the links again.

Ok, so they're not as quiet as panaflos, but some people might be looking for more than 24cfm.

80mm

90mm

Yeah, you could say that again. Well, as you also said, maybe someone is looking for a bit more air flow. But I get nervous when a retailer starts talking about (in the description) how you can reduce the noise by changing from 12 to 7 volt. I'd also prefer not to use "brushless" fans. But hey, for a buck, what are you going to do. However, watch that shipping cost. 😉 About $6.85 for 4 to CA. Ouch!

How does a 2-pin connector (on the Panaflo) connect to a "3-pin to 4-pin" adapter?
The panaflow has the "standard" connector plug that has the capability to, but may not necessarily have, three pins on it. It still plugs into a standard header or adaptor. Actually it is more correct to call what this panaflo has a "two wire" lead that ends in a standard connector. The third wire that many fans use is for rpm monitoring but it does not have to be used.

If you want brushless NMB's you can get them from Directron. I'd rather pay more and have the Panaflo's myself, those NMB's make too much noise for me. 10 for $27.50 is a good price.

EDIT: Sorry ShinSa, didn't see your link to Directron, I removed mine!

kdcomputers.com has them on sale for $2.50 or so periodically. They're usually one day sales.

THis is Def off-topic, but I was curious...... A local computer shop recommends having the cooling fans face inward so as not to create a vacum effect ...... which creates dust. However I would think you would want to pull air away from heat ..... Also having the back as rear intake is not always viable for me as computers are inevitably placed in those computer desks slot on the bottom where there is close to no ventilation in the back and the comp would basically be pulling in very hot to warm air from the PS supply just above it...

Any thoughts about this?

(Keep in mind I have only built about 4 computers so far.....)

if you read the case and cooling forum, the vantecs are louder and don't seem to do the CFMs the manufacturer labeled them as.

NICKel: How about a mod, making a hole for a fan on the side?

Well, I've always kept it so that fans took air in the front, and expelled air from the back. If you're really worried about dust, get yourself a case that has a built in screen to catch the dust 🙂

If you really want to get fancy, I bet there is some kind of chemical you can get that will make non-harmful smoke (dry ice maybe?) and you can see how it performs 🙂.

I'm not a fan placement expert, but i use one of those candle lighters and stuck it around the fan and looked at the flame to determine the draw/etc 😉

"I'd also prefer not to use "brushless" fans."

I think you mean sleeve bearing? I think the brushed fans aren't for computers, some carbon dilly thing I don't remember 😛

If its sleeve bearing, makes sense, they don't last as long as ball bearing fans most the time
