I went to radioshack and compusa yesterday to get some panaflo tails yesterday, but they dont carry them. Prices for shipping are outrageously high on shipping if you get it from pcmod.com when the product is .99 cents and shipping is $8, anyone know of a place that send it for free? Or a place that carries the panaflo tails for cheap and very low shipping cost, like $1 or less... Or maybe even some store that carries them?

Good luck on finding one... I had bought 10 panaflo's from BGmicro and looked high and low for tails and finally had to pay $8 shipping for 10 tails from PCMod.com.... you might check the forums over at arstechnica.com for a thread on tailing panaflo's, there was a link in there that had 3 pin and 4 pin connectors from radioshack so you could make your own... I will see if I can find the link.

Dave

Edit: Check this thread here: arstechnica.

Yah those are way overpriced... one time i got tails that were wired wrong... duh... and i had to redo them over which practically meant i shouldve done it myself in the first place. FRY's has molex casing and connectors... both should come out to at least $5-8. You could do it youself from there... not hard at all.

I looked all over Fry's here in Portland and couldn't find either the 3 pin or 4 pin connectors... pissed me off paying that much for shipping...

I clipped a tit off one side of the 2 pin Panaflo tail and it now fits a motherboard header and 3 to 4 pin adapters.

With the 2-pin Panaflo connectors--do they allow for motherboard fan speed monitoring?

No. The third pin would be for the RPM sensor, but even then the Panaflo's from BGmicro don't have RPM monitoring.

just buy regular 3-pin to 4-pin adapters and clip the edge of the panaflo's 2-pin tail. That way it'll fit in any molex connector though you won't have RPM monitoring (which I don't think they support anyways).

So you just shoved the bare wires into the connector????? But there are only 3 bare wires and 4 holes in the connector 1 yellow 2 black and 1 red.... and there is only 1 black in the bare wires? what do i do then?

Yep, I just shoved them in too. To wire a fan with bare leads into a 4 pin molex:

FAN red wire (12V) ------ molex yellow wire (12V)
FAN black wire ------ molex black wire

RPM monitoring (which Panaflos don't have, but if your fan does, it will be the FAN yellow wire) won't work in this instance. The MOLEX red wire, FYI, is a 5V connector.

Can also solder that sucker onto an old molex connector. That's what I did with all my old Sunons that were untailed.

So I just shove the red wire from fan into yellow in connectors and black in to black in connector... what what about the yellow in fan? what do I do with it? And which black wire hole in the molex connector do i put the black wire from fan in, cuz there are 2 in molex connector..

fatbaby, the problem is that biofobia doesn't have a tailed fan. Although we have tried to give him several options to attach the wires to a connector, he either doesn't have the tools, or the directions are still unclear to him.

I have exactly what you need. All my Panaflo's were bought untailed /bare or raw as it were.

Soldering iron, solder, old 4 pin molex connector (I just used one off an old fan), wire strippers (scissors work too)

Assuming your panaflo is untailed, like mine was...

1. Just cut the 4 pin molex connector off and strip part of the sheath off to expose the wire.
2. Take your soldering iron and solder and bond the matching wires from the fan to the corresponding molex wire.
3. Wait for it to cool.
4. Optional: Grab some heatshrink tubing and shrink that over the soldered wires with a hot air dryer or just use the hot air that is coming from your soldering iron.

I did 5 fans like that...just used a cheap $10-$15 soldering iron I think.

I have splicers for bare wires, you will need three I think. I also have a 4pin molex pass through that has the three leads you need to connect to your fan.

So 2 wires from the fan are spliced the passthrough power, and the third line is spliced from the fan (speed monitoring) to a 3 pin connector that attaches to your mobo.

That way speed monitoring from the mobo, and power direct from the PSU.

Is that what you are looking for?
