PANAFLO L1A and 2pin to 3pin connectors

So I am building a new rig and will be using 4 Panaflo L1A's for cooling...2 for intake and 2 for exhaust. So here is the situation. The Panaflo's came with a 2 pin plug, but the place I ordered them from sent me some 3 pin Y adaptors. All I need to do is modify the adaptor and I can attach 2 fans to the Y adaptor. So here is my question. Since the there are 2 fans connected to this Y adaptor, what electrical load is the mother board going to see when I plug the Y adaptor into the board? The fans are rated at DC 12V and 0.1a.

And on a side note, is this the best way to connect the fans, or should I get a 3pin to 4pin adaptor and connect the fans directly to the power supply molex plug?

Any help would be appreciated...😕

The motherboard will see 0.2 amps of draw on the 12V pin of the header, which is 2.4 watts (wattage = voltage x amperage). That isn't a crazy amount, should be ok with a modern board.

As for the plugs, are you saying the plugs on the fan wires only have two pin holes, or that they only have two holes with wires going into them, and a third vacant hole?

they have a 3 pin (male) out from the fan itself. it goes into a 3 pin (female) that only uses 2 of the plugs. The last connector (going to power) only has 2 pin (female). Thanks.

I thought those Panaflos don't have RPM monitoring anyway so the number of wires doesn't really matter.

mechBgon, thanks for answering the electircal load question....I really appreciate it. I already figured out the plug question on my own. It was quite simple. Thanks for the response guys!

So what is the answer please? Why do the panaflo's have that 3rd pin on them for?

Lots of Panaflos will only have 2 wires on them. I hope I'm not talking down to anyone too much, but fans only need 2 wires. One carries in the electricity and one is ground. If a fan has a 3rd wire it's for RPM monitoring. I'm not sure why, but I thought all Pananflos do not have RPM monitoring ability built into them. So overall it's sort of pointless to put on the 3rd wire. Some places will add in the 3 wires and 3 wire connector and some I guess save money and just put on the 2 wires and smaller 2 wire connectors. It just depends on who is selling the Panaflos.

Lots of 3 to 4 pin power connectors don't have wires for all 3 pins. The cheaper ones will only have the 2 necessary wires. It works fine and since Panaflo fans don't do RPM monitoring anyway you lose nothing. If a fan did have RPM monitoring and you did want to know the fan RPM you could get one of these from SVC.
