Panaflo L1/M1 - What's the difference?

I know the air flow and sound are different, but how much louder and/or better is the M1? This would be going on a alx-800 heatsink, and I don't want the combo to be loud, just to cool nicely.

The M1a is louder, but on my cpu the temp difference is only a few degrees. Athlon XP 1900+, Alpha 8045.

Would the L1A be good enough for my purposes, or should I get the M1A? Is it that much louder? Or is the few degrees not worth it?

What exactly are your purposes?

Personally, I'd go with the L1A over the M1. My TT SilentBoost came with the Panaflo M1A on it, and it was a little loud for my tastes. I replaced it with a L1A and I'll gladly give up a few degrees for a quiet, reliable fan like the L1A.

My max load temps never go over 48C with the SilentBoost and the L1A. As long as you stay around 55C or lower, you'll be fine.

I'd be putting it on a TR alx-800 (if i don't get the cheaper arctic cooling copper silent 2l). My case is kinda cheap (icute 314-bb) and my idle temp is about 52-55. I haven't tested load. So, I wanted to get a good cooling system that wouldn't be too expensive and noise level is very important to me.

The L1A is definitely quieter, although the M1A is pretty good in that the sound is not whiny or unpleasant. If you're unsure, you might go with the M1A along with a Zalman Fanmate. If it's more cooling than you need, you can undervolt it and make it quieter.

Great suggestion!

M1 is bearable,
in fact I am using an L1 which I won't be able to sleep at night ;)

its pros and cons..
sacrifice speed cfm for quietness,

or

sacrifice quietness for speed.
