Palomino = not highly overclockable?

I wanted to purchase a cheap 1700+ to mess around with overclocking. I was planning to purchase one from ebay but the auctions do not supply much of a description.

Also, can overclocking damage any other component other than the cpu?

Thanks,

Of course. My overclocked chip killed my mobo, erased my hdd, burned porn to all my cds, flashed my bios, flashed my wife :Q , and raped my dog.

Seriously, though. If you increase fsb higher, and your board has no pci/agp lock or divider, you run the risk of harming the components attached to that bus. A common problem is corrupting data on your hdd and having to reinstall OS.

Make sure your pci/agp bus stays as close to spec as possible. Don't increase vcore or vdimm too high (for 100 different definitions of what "too high" is, ask 100 people on this forum). If you're careful with those, you shouldn't harm anything if you have good cooling.

One thing you should be aware of... overclocking anything in your computer voids the warranty on everything in your computer.

Who's going to really know that? 😉

Some people who don't know what they're doing might screw things up, and then call a tech to come fix it, or take it somewhere to have it fixed, and they'll see that it's been tampered with and anything that might have still been covered by the warranty won't be anymore.
