Honestly at this point I would recommend any current palm phone. The hardware is sadly outdated and there will be very little if any OS support/updates. Look for Palm/HP to bring out new devices to push their new ideas out.

Stick with Android/iPhone or wait a little bit for Windows Phone 7. I think the last will be a flop, IMO.

You mean wouldn't?

But yeah I agree. The Pre was kind of cool a year ago. Nowadays, even the Plus is pretty outdated, and the Pixi even more so. The Pre Plus is so cheap anyway I don't see any reason at all to get a Pixi instead. It's just a gimped Pre, a little thinner yes but basically worse in every way.

WebOS has gone nowhere. It's not a bad OS but I wouldn't want to jump on board a sinking ship. Even if HP manages to bring out new WebOS devices next year, it's likely that any enhancements they make to the OS won't make it to existing Pre and Pixi owners.

I have a pre plus, and my wife has a pixi plus. I love my pre plus. I went from an iPhone 3g to the pre plus. I like webOS much better than iOS. The multitasking and event notifications are great. I have not had issues with the touchscreen. Maybe you tried one with an older software version. The keyboard on the pre plus is okay; the pixi plus has one of the best hardware keyboards that I have ever used.

There is a rumor that HPalm will be releasing a new webOS phone this month.

This annoys me to no end. There are always rumors. If you want to factor in things like this, you might want to hold off for the iphone

The few times I've used a Pixi, I did notice that they keyboard was pretty good. Despite being small it's very easy to use. Can't say the same for the Pre. I owned one (the Sprint non-Plus version) for a week early this year and the keyboard was so bad I exchanged it for an Android phone. The Pre Plus is better but it's still not great. I think they'd greatly benefit from an optional software keyboard.

Oh and BS on a new webOS phone this month. That is absolutely ridiculous and won't happen. Maybe next year. If they were going to release a new product that soon they would have said something. But HP themselves have said they're focusing on 2011 to expand webOS.

So far all they have confirmed is that they are working on a WebOS tablet called the PalmPad that they want to release early next year.

At this current time I would not invest in a Palm device. WebOS has gone comatose for the time being until HP releases another Palm device.

yeah. Its a really big question mark right now.

Unless you like Palm stuff. I don't think I've heard anything really bad about the phone. Its just a huge question mark that no one has any firm answers on.

Where did you hear this?

Informed speculation based on history.

Doesn't say anything about when new phones might be coming out. Or even anything about them. For all we know they could be bringing the Pre Plus and Pixi Plus to Sprint, replacing the existing Pre and Pixi. There's nothing more specific than two entries in a database that could mean anything. No reason to believe there is secret new hardware that will be shipping within the month yet somehow managed to completely avoid any leaks.

When the pixi plus and pre plus showed up on this list, they were out within two months.

Yep if Palm had a set future I would have gotten a Pre. I loved the OS but the future still is unclear.

On the whole, there's really nothing wrong with the Pre/Pixi. My wife and I had our Pres for a little over a year. I rather liked the form factor and WebOS is quite good.

Unfortunately, Palm is notoriously slow at updates/upgrades which kind of hobbles the phone. There is definitely a developer following but obviously not as big as iOS/Android.

At this point even I cannot recommend buying a Pixi and I've been a Palm guy for many years (back to my first Palm IIIe). While the platform/OS has potential, we shall see HP can finally bring them back to relevance.
