I was just looking at my laptop, and realized that it has a built in infa-red communications port. Does anyone know if it would be possible to hotsync an old Palm III with system 3.0 via this infared port, and how?
I used to have PalmOS 3 but after numerous upgrades, I don't even recall what is in it. Anyway, the answer to your question is YES, and you have 2 options here.
1) Buy the PalmOS 3.5 upgrade from the Palm site. You will be able to flash your OS to 3.5. I remember there's an option you can choose how you want to HotSync your device (ie. serial, infrared) The set up is really easy and I assume there will be a guide to walk you through HotSync via IR.
2) There's a freeware called IRLink. When I was using my Palm III, I did mess around with it but didn't have too much luck on getting it working. You may just search for IRLink in Palmgear
Personally, I would suggest option 1 if IR HotSync is important to me. Otherwise, it doesn't really worth it to pay $15 to upgrade a relatively old Palm device. Hope it helps.
