Are there any of you who bought a Palm thinking you'd use it, and after the first week or so the novelty wore off?

I've been thinking about getting one, but I don't want to pay a couple hundred for something I wouldn't use that often. Are they worth it?

Thanks in advance.

I did that when I bought a PocketPC, now that I have a palm (m505) it's actually useful to me. I use it every day!

do you use a paper planner? if you utilize one of those on an everyday basis, an upgrade to a electronic PDA will be very helpful.

i use mine (i had a palm iiixe, now ipaq 3650). i guess it depends on whether or not you actually have a schedule to keep.

i got my pocketpc last year, used it a lot at first for game, then didnt even turn it on for almost 6 months.

this year i'm making a point to use it all the time for keeping track of appointments and homework assignments in class.. and i've also got a whole new arsenal of games for it.

I used to use paper agendas rather often. And now, it's not that I *don't* have stuff to keep track of, because I do, but for whatever reason I am not. A good friend of mine kept telling me to get one, how it's so amazing to keep track of b-days, addresses, etc....and IMHO I don't need to shell out $300 or so to do that! Not being cheap, just realistic. What are the other features that are handy? I have owned an electronic data bank when I was a kid and every time I pressed a button it beeped. Annoying!

lol, you can keep your PDA from beeping nowadays :)

reoccuring events is a great thing that electronic PDA's can do, that paper planners can't. You make an appointment and have it occur daily, weekly, monthly, or any pattern you need to. it's a small but important feature, IMO.

check out some other PDA related sites and you'll find tons of things that you can do w/ Palms.

I bought a visor a while back, and I have some things to organize, but I honestly never use it. Really the palm desktop software (free for download I believe) holds all the info I need. I just don't find carrying one that convenient.

I use my Visor pretty much every day for assignments, appointments, etc. Just don't think you have to spend a lot for one. From the sounds of it, even a basic model would do everything you need (it did for me anyway).

if you dont want to spend so much, get a used Palm for about 100. I have the IIIxe and you can probably buy it for 50 or so in FS.

anyway, I find it VERY useful. I read webpages (BBC, NYT, Wired, Space.com etc..) using avantgo, play some games, get a nice calendar, memo, phone numbers, pocket dictionary, graphing & scientific calculator etc..

Its great if you have to take bus/subway to work/school.

Even if you don't use anything other than calendar/todo/addresses, its still worth the $50, since it syncs with your desktop.

Have been carrying around Palms for a few years now (first a Vx, now an m505). For me, I found the key to its use was its accessibility (i.e., it's only useful if you've got it when you need it). So my advice would be to get one small enough so you'll carry it around on a regular basis.

I think Pocket PCs are cool as hell.

That being said, I own a Visor Deluxe I bought in a package with a Glenayre wireless internet card for $79. Very basic, but it gets the job done.

I'm a student. I need something to track phone numbers, names, addresses, and keep a calender datebook for my exams and parties and stuff. This works REALLY well. I barely touch it during the summer months, but I basically live off of it during the school year.

I use the Palm side of my cell phone (Samsung I300) *mostly* as an electronic addressbook. I prefer to use Outlook for scheduling (home & work), while my company uses Metting Maker. Needless to say, it takes some considerable effort (and rebooting my work PC) to keep everything in sync.

Whatever you're in the market for, as Chief Ferengi of FL, (And recently ATOT elected Grand Nagus Gubernatorial Candiate!) I have an obligation to find you the best deal.

What kind of budget are you on?
Do you have a staples/OM/OD near you?
What features are important?

I delayed buying one forever because I knew I would do that (stop using it because it's not that big a deal). Then I got a free M100 (Finally) for a testdrive which was completely useless (2MB and no upgrading). So, I exchanged it to a clie pegs360 for an additional $80-90 bucks. That was quite a few mo's ago. I used the clie for a few weeks a lot, but, got to be a pain carrying it around and worrying about breaking it and for some things it wasn't as quick as the old way.

Like the grocery list (or shopping list progs)... I find I can get my shopping done quicker w/ paper. Although it was nice having the prices to compare between shops on some of the items I Bothered entering 'em in.

Nowadays I use it when I travel for gaming and ebooks and a phone book. I keep my important data in an encrypted file there too. Sometimes I use the calculator. Otherwise it sits around a lot. Overall, I think it was worth it.
