I'm a self-proclaimed "palm expert", first palm was a III december 98 and I've been through a IIIx, IIIxe, and Palm V (upgraded to 8megs and 20mhz processor).

<< Guys got your palmIIIxe, which kind of battery are you planning to use on this new toy. regular, Ni-cad, NIMH? Does it really last long with regular AAA? >>

it should last 24 hours of actual use on regular AAA batteries depending on what your running, backlight on, etc, so I guess it depends on how often you use it. Even the most power users last a week, casual users should last a month. For most people regular AAA batteries is plenty. NiCAD die too fast towards the end and then you'll lose everything. NiMH are better but my IIIxe didn't like the Energizer NiMH i put in there so I don't know what it wanted. Also cheap AAA will kill the thing too for some reason.

I ended up going to big lots and getting 4 packs of Energizer Alkaline for like $2 a pack, i'd recommend that if you have a big lots near by, or just buy 6 packs and that'll last you a year and it'd still be much cheaper than a NiMH charger and 4 NiMH batteries.

Oh My God, I almost sh!t a brick when I saw this thread. I bought my palmIIIxe about 2 and a half weeks ago for about twice the price. O well, at least i'm enjoying myself in Thailand and not freezing my ass off in Calgary, Alberta.

Won't using the rechargeable batteries as opposed to the AAA void the warranty, since it specifies using the AAA's? Just wondering, and ordered mine two weeks ago from the sob..uhh amazon, and it's still in fernley nevada, or on some mail truck in a ditch somewhere.

Ordered the Palm IIIxe over the phone from Staples. Got the $40 rebate, free shipping, and the free 5" B/W TV. I didn't ask for the TV, the CSR ask me if I wanted it.:D I think I'm LIK'N Staples more every day.

Another reason to order over the phone! I was in another thread where a few senior members were trying to convince me that ordering online and then calling in is better. Can't figure the reasoning myself. Why wait for the online ordering processing when you can talk to a CSR and make sure your deal is done right the first time?

Well, I'll try to explain it again.

If you order on line first, the vendor responds with the availability and delivery time frame in writing. With this info in hand (on screen)you can PM from facts; availability and arrival are established and the product is on the way. The CSR can't shut down the deal by claiming stock out. The CSR can't add on overnight charges to the PM if the shipment will in fact take 5 days.

It's a hardball approach you come to use when you begin to feel that the CSRs play games or got a "pep talk" on how to thwart the "newsgroup cheaters" at the beginning of their shift.

For those who type a lot and don't want to use graffiti, try the Go!Type keyboard at Staples.com. They have it for $70, add $5 to get $25 off, $50 for a pretty cute keyboard and excelent type software, TakeNotes and Word Sleuth.

Thanks haner.
At the time this hot deal came out I had no intrest nor need for a palm device. Things change and for the last week I've been really wanting one but wasn't quite ready to spend that much. But this deal is great and I had forgotten about it. I just placed the order so thanks again for the reminder.
