The Palit 7800GT Blitz is not only overclocked like so many of the 'special editions' offered by practically every vendor, it uses faster and more expensive DDR3 RAMs rated at 1.4ns.

We were quoted a recommended retail price of US$299 for this extremely fast GeForce 7800 GT, which is an incredible bargain, especially when the lowest GeForce 7800 GT started from US$285 and upwards at the time of publishing. With the kind of performance that the Palit 7800GT Blitz brings, this card will wipe any standard GeForce 7800 GT in all benchmarks and games for the price of a low-cost GeForce 7800 GT of other vendors.

hardwarezone OC'd this card to 490/1600mhz:Q

That can be because of many reasons. Their CPU was only @ 2.2 GHz, while yours is @ 2.75 GHz, this will results in a few hundred more points. They may have used a higher-quality image mode while benching 3dMark.

Yeah, my first GT scored 7490 at default 445/1070, almost matching their 7800GTX.

They have to be using weaker hardware elsewhere.

Expect 7800GT 512 MB 1.4 ns. (714.286 MHz, 1.428 GHz effective) soon.

http://www.pcpop.com/doc/0/127/127145.shtml

And for only $25 more than a 256 MB/2.0 ns 7800GT.

7800GT 256M 2.0NS: 2,499.00 CNY = 309.961 USD
7800GT 512M 1.4NS: 2,699.00 CNY = 334.768 USD

These new ones should overclock at least another 100 effective MHz within their 1.4 ns (1.428 GHz effective) specification it seems.

People would buy this rather than the 7800GTX 256mb. I mean it even comes with 1.4ns 256bit 512mb GDDR3 ram!!

I wouldnt mind 7800GT 512mb SLi :)

I had a Palit Daytona GF4 4200ti that I just retired from active service. I bought it in 2001 and it ran fine for about 1 year, then started showing terrible artifacting. I had luckily bookmarked the site where I bought it and contacted them. They sent me another card (2 year warranty) but I haven't heard much from them since either. When buying a higher end card, keep in mind the warranty as well, which is why EVGA is so popular with the AT crowd.

Looks pretty good. Could possibly use a fan slsapped over the power circuitry to help lower those temps. I am certainly going to consider them as a small but useful step up from my PNY 7800GT's.
