Probably not, but it's a unique product so they can get away with a bit of price gouging. For high end SLI setups where only the memory on one card is used, it is probably worth it. For single card setups, probably not so much.

It's ugly, though. I want to see that Gainward Phantom 580 for sale.

edit: The Gainward Phantom is 2.5 slot, though, right? Limits its utility for 3-way and 4-way SLI setups.

It's the fastest single-GPU card with the largest amount of memory available a on gaming card. Surely such a title is worth an extra $100, no? ;)

Hardocp needs to retest with it against the 6970 2GB with 3 monitors.

I wouldn't compare it to anything. When you review a Ferrari you don't compare it to a Corvette. Would piss Ferrari off, and rightfully so. I say it stands on it's own, until something else comparable comes along.

What ever happened to that 1920sp Cayman we were all salivating over when the benchmarks were "leaked"?

The 580 was memory limited in the review which is why they need to retest with the 3GB version

I wouldn't want a card that looked like that in my system. That thing is hideous.

It's $1200 for two of them though. That's HD6950 in Quadfire, if you want a comparison. There's no true value to it (580 3Gig). You just get it because it's top of the line.

How often do you look at your card when it is installed???

*confused*

For CPU cases that have side windows probably daily :p

Edit:
I really doubt 1.5GB cost $100 considering the drop from 2gb to 1gb for the HD6950 was $20

I look at everything I buy & I don't buy products / components, etc. that look hideous. Doesn't matter what the product is. Not everyone has aesthetic taste & that's fine, but I do.

Which means you are more likely to purchase something that could possibly be inferior because it "looks better."

I am with you on women, but not items that I only see when installing or removing.

Ehh....but whatever floats your boat!

You really want to run 4 cards?

No, but I don't want to, nor is there any need to, spend $1200USD for video cards either.

This card doesn't look like a reference design, either. It will come under the heading of specialty card, unless every other board partner does the same. My point is that they aren't comparable to anything else.

It's not the looks that's an issue - it's that cooler! Those coolers dump a ton of heat in your case.

Not sure why everyone complains about this.. Most cases have 8 fans these days.

Speak for yourself. People who run 3 monitors would benefit greatly from this card.

Fine, test them. Buy them. Comparing them to other cards that are ~1/2 the price is dumb though.

Most have 8 case fans? This is one of the best examples of hyperbole I have read in a long time, however, I don't think you meant it as such...

I have four 120mm case fans all on low and I consider that more than most. I'd say the norm for even an enthusiest is probably 2-3 120mm case fans.

It makes a HUGE difference in temperatures. The reference design is the way it is for a reason. These departures from said designs are hacks, nothing more.

No, I am not more likely to purchase an inferior product because I have aesthetic taste. What a ridiculous comment. Some of us care about what we spend our hard earned money on. That shouldn't be so difficult to comprehend.
