Palit 1GB G92 8800 GTS

Yea, the 9600GT looks similar, but without the orange on the backside of the card, and I think that one looks sexay, but this one is in a class by itself. I'm extremely tired of the same old green PCB, but already owning an 8800GTS (AC3 eVGA) means this is redundant for me. Palit's warranty is vague as well, and when you sink $300+ into a card, you don't want questions on how long its covered.
 
I wonder if other vendors have 1GB versions in the works. Seems like a dumb move considering what's coming out. Now if this were a 9800 GTX with 1GB and looking this sweet...

Good looking or not, this card looks like it's going to dump a bunch of heat into your case. They should have stuck with the reference cooler that exhausts the hot air out the back. This card is a double negative - dual slot and no rear exhaust...
 
If Nvidia can get SLI to work between models and generations like ATI, 1 Gig could be useful combining this card with a 1 GB 9800GT or even the 9800 GTX2. Or going a different route, in a year when games start running slow, you could combine it with that 1 GB 8800GS on newegg for $55. I have little doubt Nvidia is doing this to counter ATI.

It's pretty nice to finally see so many options in the $120-$190 range (soon to be the $45-$120 range) with CF/SLI a real way to go to achieve enough power for the forseeable future. Still no verdict whether Crysis at ultra settings is an indication of what's to come or a mistake other developers will fix.

With the performance of these latest mid-range cards and the price dropping on X38/750i, it finally makes sense to slap extra memory onto lower end cards. It would help compensate for the hit they take in multi-GPU configurations.

It is something to consider if the difference is only $20.

The refernce design is crap. It barely moves any air.
Palit knows how to design good coolers. And its better to keep your card cool and dump back into the case, then to have a noisy fan and a hot card that moves a tiny bit of heat out of the case.

We've had this conversation before... We disagree on this point. The cooler on my GTS moves plenty of air, and keeps the card running at a decent temp while not dumping heat into the case. The core on this card gets hot, there is no doubt about that... Do you want all that hot air inside your case heating up your other components, or do you want it outside?

While it is not recommended, NVIDIA does offer this flexibility using Coolbits. When purchasing a second graphics card, you should try to match the memory size so that you are ensured full value and performance from your purchase. For example, if your first card is a GeForce 6600 GT with 128MB of memory, you should purchase a second GeForce 6600 GT with 128MB of memory. However, using Coolbits (value set to 18), you can force both of the cards to use the lower of the two memory sizes and operate together in SLI mode.
