Palin: 'When you're here, let's speak American'

“I think we can send a message and say, ‘You want to be in America? A. You better be here legally or you’re out of here. B. When you’re here, let’s speak American,'” Palin told CNN’s Jake Tapper in an interview that aired on "State of the Union” Sunday. “I mean, that’s just — let’s speak English and that’s kind of a unifying aspect of a nation — the language that is understood by all.”

Yes, yes, Palin does not represent the GOP - she was just someone the GOP wanted in the White House to run the country as VP, she is totally unimportant.

Ugh, it is one thing to advocate that immigrants learn the common language, which is a practical and legitimate concern, but in this case it is nothing more than a mask concealing a xenophobic idiot.

The only language that is understood is $$$. Palin must be running low and out doing her rain dance to see if the GOP Gods will make it rain for her once more.

Has everyone forgotten Firefly? The only 2 languages which will survive will be English and Mandarin. Here in Vancouver I sometimes take a trip into Richmond. Many store signs are in Mandarin only, and it's pretty much the only language you hear on the streets and in stores. Even many of the local RCMP officers speak Mandarin. Feels like the future is arriving all too soon.

I almost brought that up in a thread the other day.

Always got a kick out of it when they swore in Mandarin etc and kicked over a bit.

Reminded me a bit of Hawaiian Pidgin.

Sounds reasonable. Libtards would rather America mirror the Balkans.

I will never understand Libtards' desire to have eternal conflict.

Conservatards don't understand much of anything, so don't worry, you're in good company, conservatard.

It's so cute when Snowbilly Snooki flaps her gums and says ridiculous crap that the rubes lap up.

If there was a hell John McCain should have to rot in it for inflicting her on our nation.

I like the idea of a national language simply for efficiency.

If you can't understand other people and they can't understand you, it limits your options in society, including economic opportunities. I wouldn't go to another country and expect them to have to adapt to me.

It doesn't stem from any kind of chest-beating nationalist pride mindset; nations are social constructs for purposes of human logistics, to keep a large group of people somewhat organized. It's just for efficiency, and also respect for the country you're moving to. You're the newcomer. Adapt to the larger group you're moving in with.

A very logical way of thinking that's packed with common sense and thoughtfulness of which I agree with. But there's one problem with that: some folks are going to take exception to what your opinion is about this topic because they're not able to see past the purity of your thoughts and the fact that you only said what you meant and you only meant what you said.

They would rather read into your commentary all manner of predisposed and conditioned suspicions about the veracity and honesty of your train of thought.

Just say'in. 😉

American is a language.

Just take English, then fill it with "bastard" and "son of a bitch".

Good times.

but that's already being done because the mexican kids inevitably have to use English in school.

She's complaining about people who know another language besides English who choose to use it for their private communications. Jeb Bush is not a representative of the state when he's on a presidential political campaign, he represents himself.
