Palin lies again

After thinking about the newspapers she reads, Palin comes up with two of the most respected journals in the world. Nobody I know who reads The Economist speaks like her. I'm not sure why they keep lying like this.

http://www.politico.com/blogs/...Economist.html?showall

What Palin reads: NY Times, Economist

I linked earlier to Palin's continued criticism of the media on Fox. But Palin also took the opportunity to answer two questions she didn't answer when asked by Katie Couric: what she reads, and to name a Supreme Court case she disagreed with.

Carl Cameron, discussing the interview earlier on Fox: "We talked about some of the things that happened in every interview proceeding her interview, including her inability to enter some questions from Katie Couric. She was not able to talk about Supreme Court rulings that she disagreed with. And there is a sense that she went back to look at the books and got her answer."

GOV. SARAH PALIN: A recent one, Kennedy vs. Louisiana where the Supreme Court will tell a state that they cannot impose the death penalty even on repeat, rapists. A state's right or taken away by the supreme court and we will not be able to decide ourselves whether the death penalty could be implemented in that. I am certainly not a supporter of that decision. Also, eminent domain. That affects me as a governor and as a mayor as well. private property rights are so precious in this nation and for the Supreme Court to have sided with government, instead of the people, the property owners, that was frustrating. Another one personally affecting me, the Exxon Valdez oil spill. The oil company decimated Alaska's coastline and much of our fisheries and coastal communities livelihood, and they sided with Exxon on the punitive damage that was to be awarded. that was frustrating.
Cameron added that Palin said she reads the New York Times, The Economist, and other publications.

(This was from a rush transcript).

UPDATE: A reader points out that my colleague Mike Allen was onto something last night on "Hardball"

MATTHEWS: But I still am stunned with her inability to answer these general knowledge questions that most people who read the paper can answer. I don`t know why she is afraid to answer them. Maybe it`s her bad training. My suspicion is that she has the same lack of intellectual curiosity that the president of the United States has right now. And that is scary.

HEILEMANN: Mike, do you think -- do you think when she wouldn`t -- when she wouldn`t answer what she -- what she reads, do you think that was because she doesn`t read, or do you think that is because she was afraid to say the local say the local Wasilla newspaper, or she was afraid to say "The New York Times"? Which of those do you think it was?

ALLEN: Somebody told me, she should have just said "The Economist." Everybody lies about reading "The Economist."

LOL I hope the NYT slams Palin by saying: "If you are reading this, let you know that we 100% endorse BO and JB"

How nice of Fox to give her a redo after she had a chance to study.

The parallels with Miss South Carolina are just uncanny. Check out 3:00 into this one. Text

So you blooming idiots really believe Palin doesn't read newspapers? And doesn't know of any court cases she disagrees about when she wrote a dissenting editorial letter criticizing the Supreme Court's slowness in handling the Exonn case earlier this year?

She's just not quick enough on her feet to remember her own opinions without a good prep course.

Give her questions in advance or let her cram for limited interviews in a tightly controlled environment and she obviously does well.

edit: FWIW, I do not bloom.

Did she write it in crayon?

She didn't write a letter, she told someone to write a letter. Text

Unless you're talking about something else. Which you very well may be... but you didn't provide any links.

Let anyone cheat on a test and they can do well. The point being, we want to know what Palin knows without cheat sheet fudges. Its all about being ready to lead and being up to speed on the issues, knowing the McCain talking points is one thing, understanding and articulating why they are or are not superior to other possible options is quite another thing.

So you think some ghostwriter wrote the letter without Palin knowing anything about the case at all? Do you realize how absurd you sound? Occam's Razor applies here...

I agree-- I'd like to hear her views on the issues as well. But what I won't do is presume that she's never read a newspaper because she can't or won't name one specifically during an interview.

[1] What is CLEAR is that, even though she was governor of the affected state at the time, her UNDERSTANDING of the problem was and is so shallow that it made no permanent mark in her Barbie mind that the UNITED STATES SUPREME COURT was involved.

THAT'S stupid.

THAT'S unforgivably shallow.

THAT'S scary.

[2] Do you, YOU BLOOMING IDIOT, really believe that Sarah Palin, when asked this SIMPLE question, couldn't remember that she read the New York Times and the Economist?

There are only two possiblities here: She's lying or she's mentally challenged. Either way, she is unfit for national office.

Oh, and btw, the NYT is UNAVAILABLE for home delivery in both Wasilla, where her home is, AND in Juneau, where she lives during the legislative session.

Maybe she gets the electronic edition, but I'd love to be an interviewer and trap that lying dimbulb bitch in her lie.

At this point, if Palins lips are moving, she's lying.
I guess the only way to stop her from lying is giving her mouth something else to do except speaking....

But then again she probably can't chew gum and campaign at the same time.

I don't think she's never read a newspaper, but how can you possibly not know the name of a paper you read even once or twice a week? If you don't read newspapers, how can you not think to say, "I get news from several web sites" or "my staff excerpts news stories for me from various sources" or "I get most of my news from cable and broadcast news shows"?

That includes the same 25% that give Bush a positive job approval rating.

I just watched that video again (of Palin not naming a newspaper), and thought of another possibility. It's possibly she mostly watched Fox News, and froze when the question came up because she knew how bad it would look. Obviously she had some news source when Governor, but for some reason she refused to share it.

Actually, she didn't need to name any. In her interview she clearly said she read "all of them"... this leaves little time for governing I am sure - so given that, she has done a good job.

When McCain first started blatantly lying about Obama, I got royally PO'd about it.

When Palin started making a complete ass of herself I actually felt sorry for her.

After weeks of this incessant Dumb and Dumber routine from them I finally see the true value of their campaigning.

Palin's ineptitude and McCain's blatant lies is getting downright hilarious. They make me laugh. As far as I'm concerned, that's all they're good for from here on in.

Those who bravely attempt to defend Palin's and McCain's pathetic and disingenuous campaign stylings are even funnier and I thank them for trying so hard.

Palin and McCain have gone over the edge. They've lost their creditability, they've lost their viability and they're going to lose this race by a landslide if they keep making fools of themselves in this way.

I agree that Occams Razor applies...
As she can't even name the Supreme Court case that the letter pertained to just a few months ago, I would say that she did indeed just sign the letter. Remember that the term "ghostwriter doesn't apply here...think "legal advisor".
Do you actually write the legal correspondence your lawyer suggests, or does he usually "Ghostwrite" it?
Now assume that you're involved in literally hundreds of legal decisions (as a Governor would be)...
If you're someone of Palin's obvious mentally challenged ability, how likely is it that you will understand all of the cases?
