Palestinians Burn US Flags

I caught this story on the news at work (don't bash me, we're only allowed to watch FOX News.)

Really just warms the cockles of your heart to see how grateful the Palestinians are for the ~$400 million in US aid we give them every year. We even warned them that their aid would be endangered and their diplomatic offices closed if they put in a UN statehood bid. And they react by burning our flag.

You're surprised that the Palestinians are pissed that we very openly and dramatically opposed their bid for statehood? Whether or not you think opposing the bid is the right thing to do or not, you can't really expect the Palestinians themselves to be happy about it, can you?

And what kind of jackwagon employer forces you to watch a particular news channel?

I agree with Rainford, and add in the fact that Obama was for Palestinian Statehood before he was against it. Now the question is what price Obama and the USA will have to pay for our pandering to only Israeli interests.

The big questions is and remains, will Israel will escape without a settlement freeze requirement from the UN in 2011? And since its certain to come up in 2012, 20123, and beyond, will the Israeli negotioating position continue to deterorate?

As for the 400 million the USA pays for Palestinian aid, the Saudis have pledged an immediate 200 million of Palestinian aid if the USA is so stupid as to become diplomatic persona non grata in the Arab world. And the bulk of the rest of the world too.

But earth to Nebor, the twits you work for, don't think beyond the ends of their noses. Fox news will not save their asses even if they hear only what they want to from Fox.

No I'm not surprised. They were out there cheering and burning US flags on 9/11 too. If the Palestinians hadn't elected a gaggle of terrorists and crooks maybe they wouldn't be in this situation.

Oh, and my current employer is the US Army. Fox angries up the blood and gets everyone ready to fight I think. :p

You're living under occupation by Israel, and the US is the primary backer of Israel. Then when they seek statehood at the UN, the US blocks them. Wouldn't you do the same?

No, I think if I were unhappy with the situation I'd either give up and go live in Israel or if I really hated America and Israel I'd get some weapons or explosives and a plan. Instead of burning flags, crying in the street and throwing rocks. But then, the Palestinians wouldn't be in the spot they're in if they weren't pussies and terrible fighters.

I agree with Nebor that the US should cut the $400 million per year aid to the Palestinian immediately, and so as the $2775 million per annum to the Israeli. The Israelis did a lot more than just burning US flags, such as the USS Liberty attack, Jonathan Pollard, and deceptions.

That's some straight up truth right there. Simple and to the heart of the matter.

We'd have to be crazy to cut off the Israelis after they showed us what they were capable of during the USS Liberty attack. It's like deciding you're going to stop paying protection money to the biggest guy around: he'll kick the shit out of you.

What a shame.

I now know why the US army has been labeled as a bunch of pussies, because they have you on their payroll.

I believe the US Navy was running the USS Liberty technical research ship at the time. I could be wrong. I'm pretty sure the Navy runs all the ships today too.

Nebor are you claiming that the US Army mandates that the only channel that can be watched is Fox News? I find that very hard to believe.

Why in the hell are we giving aid to any countries? That shit needs to stop

I completely agree. If they want our tax dollars, they can petition to join the union and start following our constitution.

Not the entire Army, but individual post commanders (and lower level commanders if no post policy exists) can mandate the TV stations to be watched. I've seen Fox mandated at 3 different posts for what it's worth. I've also seen HLN mandated at one.

While I hate wasting governemt money, its much cheaper to buy influence compared to cost of increased instability in regions like Middle East (small increase in price of oil cost US economy much more that all foreign aid combined per year).

Where have we seen this refrain before?

US will be ostracized
Israel will have to give up settlements.

Maybe the US is being loyal to an ally and realizing that the Palestinians/Arabs are a Pandora's box that should not be opened

I feel like "they" are way more diverse than you might imagine. Sort of like trying to lump the entire US in with some random protest group you happen to get video of. In any case, I'm not entirely sure what we should do now. I don't think they like us all that much, and we've pretty much staked out the position that they can go fuck themselves when it comes down to Palestine vs Israel. So that's some admirable diplomacy all around, don't you think?

Mandating a particular news channel for political reasons is also using an official federal government position to push a political agenda, which is against several laws that apply to civilian and military folks. I'm not a lawyer, but I suspect that official policy would frown on that sort of thing.

I don't really care? We shouldn't do business like that anyways or at least have more stipulations to it. If we stop supporting them someone else will have to or they'll have to cave into our demands that come with the money. Like I said, if another country wants American dollars to help keep them afloat, they need to petition to join the Union or fuck off. If they aren't going to follow our rules, they don't deserve our money.

Does anyone really believe it's realistic to try to force the issue from coming up in the hopes that it will just go away? Clearly there is a problem in that region, and clearly there is a conflict that I feel like people aren't just going to forget about. I'm not sure what the issue is, but keeping Pandora's box closed doesn't seem like a very good long term solution.
