Well. Pale Moon just said it had an important update, so I got it. When PM restarted, interface was ginormous, no toolbar tabs.....and, then all by itself, it got even bigger showing only the Lavafox red enhancement and nothing else, nor is there anything I can do to restore the normal interface! Plus, just to close the poor, suddenly ginormous thing, given the X button is not on my screen, I have to use Task Mgr.

I will put up screenie of the new, giant, missing things GUI before it gets even bigger. Could any of this owe to I do not have my resolution set to the hightest?

This is VERY upsetting, this, the browser I luv, suddenly on steroids.

Thank you!!!!

Below is when it gets even BIGGER!!!!!::eek:

Sounds like it changed your video resolution/zoom factor. BTW, you can always close a Windows using ALT-F4. Check your video display parameters.

Neo.....if I gotta do that I will. But I don wanna. Given, how many geniuses there are RIGHT HERE where I am At Home.

This truly is kinda like a special effect fromTHE MATRIX!:whiste::\

Am sure U got this new update just now.....and everything was normal when PM reopened?

It's Corky with the good, clear, well populated brain!!!!!

Yes, that feels right. But it is only manifesting re Pale Moon, nothing else. How is that possible? Is this something indigenous in the update or only in my system after having gotten the update?

Thanks for the KB shortcut, I never use those.

I think I will boot into my backup drive....recently recloned, and work from there and decline the update!

This is very PMS like. I hate IE, but here I am.

Update!!!!

Been here in my backup drive for a long time, but, when I needed to log into this site in IE earlier, when in my WD Black drive, I din remember my PW cause I never used other than what the site sent, so i changed it, and then, in this drive I messed up and hadda wait. But now, I am good to go again, so here I am.

Now, I declined the update in Pale Moon in this drive when it presented, checked out the release notes for this new update, and PLEASE SEE BELOW! Third bullet from the top, I made italic.

Pale Moon: Release notes
24.2.0 (2013-11-26)
This update implements the following changes:

 • Update of the new-tab routine: When opening a new tab, focus will now only be on the address bar if you open a blank tab or the Quick Dial page, and focus will be on the page content otherwise (Pale Moon start page or custom URL).
 • Compatibility issues between QuickFind/Find-as-you-Type and HTML5 input fields in forms fixed.
 • New advanced feature: Later versions of the Firefox code will automatically place the browser window fully on a visible portion of the screen. If you prefer having the browser window positioned partially off-screen and want to prevent this automatic resizing and repositioning when starting a new session, create a new boolean preference in about:config called browser.sessionstore.exactPos and set it to true.
 • Updated the localization of the status bar code with the following locales: en-GB, es-MX, es-AR, it, pl.
 • Fix for a security issue with script event handlers.
What does that mean? THE ITALIC PART??????:\:| The "automatic resizing thingy????" And how to I reconfigure it? Cause I am not understanding what they said, but, clearly it addresses what happened.
-_____________________________________________
Edit: I am waiting for someone to pls explain that part I made italic. Or else, I could simply clone this, my backup drive, to my new/used WD black, the drive I usually boot into. But, that feels like giving up on fixing what is messed up in that drive re PM with the update.

It means new behavior should resize and place the window so the whole thing is on the screen. To disable that behavior, you need to create a preference to override it.

But, it did THE OPPOSITE! The whole GUI was on the screen BEFORE the update, and not AFTER.

I don't know what I'm seeing in your screenshots. It looks like the interface in mangled, and isn't necessarily a result of window size.

There is nothing mangled in what I put up. What I put up simply shows the new interface is bigger than my screen and so, the important parts/options, buttons, etc. are invisible and not accessible.

What are the three dots next to the home button? Are they window controls? If they are, what are they doing there?

Forget those for now, they are moot anyhow; I hit those, they do nothing, they have nothing to do with Windows. As I shared, I am now in my backup drive where things are normal given I declined the update. I will now put up a screenie of the NORMAL INTERFACE.

PS: Most confusing of all, it says Later versions of the Firefox code will automatically place the browser window fully on a visible portion of the screen.

All my previous versions did that! this new version does the opposite!!!

It's probably one of your addons, and likely the theme; maybe the background image you applied. I've never had a window size issue during upgrade.

It is none of those! The section of the release note I put in italics clearly addresses the core of my issue! Read it again do you see it? RESIZING. Tho it seems BACKWARD re what happened. That is what we need to focus on and try to understand the minutae of, trust me.

Forget, as usual, after each update, PM checks for compatibility re yr add ons, theme, etc. The few I have were entirely compatible.

Edit; OK, doing reverse clone will be my last resort, given I want to learn how to fix this properly in my go to drive. So, how to I make this new BOOLEAN preference? Is it altering a reg key?

Delving, just found this:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2364856/initializing-a-boolean-array-in-java

I do not yet understand this. It is something in Java or something in the registry re Java? Or, neither of the above? OMG, I am not having fun yet.:\:|:whiste: But I am, giggling. Tho NOT IN A GOOD WAY AT ALL.

Look, I can read just fine. I'm telling you the problem is likely with an addon. If no one else is having problems, that leaves something in your setup. I'm on Firefox 27. That's three versions beyond what you're using, and I had no issue with the upgrade before or after 24.

Compatibility checking can't be counted on. It simply checks the version it says it's compatible with in the file, and if the version matches, it says it's good. Any number can be put in there, with any level of testing, including none at all.

Alternately, you got a corrupted download. I don't how how it's checked in Windows, but I'd expect a hash check at the least to make sure things are right. Whether it does that or not, I don't know.

K....I went into local machine and looked at all the Pale Moon keys; in this drive, of course, the new update is absent, the one before it shows up. So, I might boot into my go to drive with the messed up PM, and just delete the key for the new update.

Why not? It’s logical, right? OR NOT!():)

I am only relatively sane():) cause I always have the option to do the reverse clone. But it would mean I was defeated by this issue, and will have AVOID THIS UPDATE!!! But so would deleting the key. Not my style. I wanna learn how to FIX THIS keeping the update.

K, let me go there and try that...given, it will show the new update, and, maybe, when I expand the key, I will see something I can set to true. Or less than true. Or, please stop this, it is making me nauseated!:whiste:

I am now back in my go to drive; I deleted the key in question in the registry and nothing changed.

I will bet U a dollar it is not any of my very few and very basic add ons. Nor, do I think I got a corrupted download. Again, given the reference to "resizing," since....my ISSUE IS EXACLTY THAT: a sudden leap in the size of the GUI.

And numbers of updates in FX and PM respectively, I also think are moot. While some of the code in PM is derived from Mozilla, it is a different app with different updates written to do different things.

Does anyone here know how to get the changed BOOLEAN thingy done? WHERE ARE THESE BOOLEAN THINGYS??? WHAT....are these boolean thingys????

OMG, the laughing in a not good, lunatic way has just kicked in.

I keep delving to find the booleans!

http://stackoverflow.com/questions/13310410/change-the-default-value-of-boolean

Howwww can I change one if I can not FIND THEM?????
____________________________
Edit: OK wait.....ARE THEY IN HIDDEN FOLDERS? I will now Uncheck HIDE SYSTEM FOLDERs OR any other folders that ever were. Maybe THEN, THESE MYSTERIOUS booleans will appeear as if by MAGIC!

OR NOT.
______________________________
Edit: well, that din help at all, the do not hide folders. NOT ONE BOOLEAN appeared!
http://php.net/manual/en/language.types.boolean.php

How U think I feel, forget the time this is taking.....as I go on keying in Where are BOOLEANS IN W 7? And getting all this dense, esoteric stuff I have NO clue what any of it means??

Tho is seems I am the only human on the planet who never heard of BOOLEANS...forget can not FIND THEM. BOOLEANS: Sounds like someone got tired of trick or treating on Halloween and had to lean on a wall.

K.....well, what I thought I deleted is still there. Plus, the new update had last number 2. The one there has the last number 1. The new one is 24.0.2. I think I will just delete the 24.0.1, do a little dance and see what happpens.

...

You need to type about:config in your address bar, acknowledge the warning, then add the entry as stated in the new feature documentation. You do that by right clicking the value field, Pick New, Boolean, then set it.

Sigh. K.....within my many browser.session stores......I do not see the one I need to change: exactPos.

f4e5oi.jpg

Do I need to create this browser.session store ANEW? And, if so, will it carry low risers I like?

Restart the browser. I assume that still won't work. If that's correct, you have to disable all your addons, restart again, and see what happens. If that works, you turn your addons back on one at a time until you find the problem.
