Pale Moon 25.x users - I need a favor

Well that's odd. It's only that site that crashes the browser. I'm going to investigate further then. Thanks.

Edit: Figured it out. I had read that when using an SSD, in order to reduce writes to the SSD, one should disable browser.cache.disk.enable, and enable browser.cache.memory.enable, which is enabled by default. But I didn't have enough memory allocated in browser.cache.memory.capacity. I wonder if it is it even necessary to disable the disk cache. Will the browser cache only get written to disk if there is not enough available memory?

Edit 2: Yep it crashes if disk cache is disabled with the smaller memory cache. Works fine with the smaller memory cache if disk cache is enabled too.

Just went, I run PM, latest build, and it was completely normal, page opened immediately. Was very smart of you to ask us to do this.

Re browser cache and SSD, good troubleshooting!!!

Thanks for checking. Am I being anal about the browser cache and SSD? Do you think it even matters? If you have an SSD, do you do anything with the browser cache settings?

I've never bothered worrying about settings like that and have never noticed any issues. I suspect that setting like that were important with early generation drives and not so much with newer drives.

My cache is set to ram disk, mostly for theoretical benefits. I have ram to spare, so I might as well use it. If you have plenty of ram, do it, if not, I wouldn't worry about ssd writes. It'll likely be obsolete before it starts becoming an issue.

I just did yesterday!!! Hold on, I made a thread re all I did asking for feedback, but I will go find the relevant part and past it here.

No, wrong....I should link U to the thread in question....and, while you will be told U R being OCD and wasting yr time by well meaning members here who are doing some kinda barrel racing at some rodeo with stop watches....try not to buy into it, learn and you may end up feeling less perfectionistic and insane.

Or they might learn to understand that modern SSDs just don't need the same kid glove treatment that older equipment needed. <shrug>

Sigh. Yes, that's the leit motif here. And, I knew that even before I got this drive many mos ago. But.....never means some tweaks aren't HELPFUL. As was the case open and shut re what I did yesterday.

Chacun a son gout. To each his own.🙂

PS: I like you haven't abandoned PM, as I have not either. Some here did with the arrival of 25. I still LOVE PM.

My SSD is a Samsung 830. Is that considered modern? If so I thank you all for pointing out that these tweaks are no longer required. I had always disabled disk cache and set the memory cache to 256000 because that's what the disk cache was. Always worked fine with Firefox and then Pale Moon until the crashes started with version 25.x. But I do this for a hobby. I'm a 62 year old retiree with plenty of time on my hands. So I like to experiment. It's fun and educational. I'm never to old to learn and I thank you all for your advice.
