So my cousin bought me back a bunch of dvd's that are Pal from the UK. Whats the difference. Will these look any different on my widescreen HDTV and regular 36" flatscreen?

I have a modded xbox guys 🙂

unless they are region free and you got a dvd player that can output pal into ntsc your fscked..

rip the dvds and re burn them into dvds for the us, or watch on your pc.

they will, but you'll lose one of your five region code changes...then another when you go back to US region discs...

PAL DVD's will not work with NTSC players and/or TV's. It has nothing to do with region coding, it's a different format entirely.

*shrug*

He can always try it of course, but I'd be surprised if it played correctly.

Actually 60% of my DVD from Europe and other PAL regions. Never had a problem. Most of DVD players capable to convert PAL to NTSC and back. Actually PAL picture looks better since has more lines and 50 HZ.

There is no software available to convert a PAL DVD to an NTSC DVD or vise versa.

I have looked into this earlier this year.

Correction, there is no one step software solution that will do it. You will basically have to rip the dvd then reauthor it. Not worth the effort in my opinion, just do some research and buy a Apex or Samsung player that will do the conversion.

You didn't look hard enough.

1. To convert PAL to NTSC, download VobBlanker

2. Rip your movie to the hard drive with DVDShrink or DVD Decryter.

3. Then open your newly ripped files with VOBBlanker. Under the title set block (center of program window), you'll see your VOB files. The center column says "video format". Where is says PAL 4:3 720x480, if you right click on the VOB's you want to convert, then select "video attributes", you'll see a new window pop up. In this window, you can change the "standard" from NTSC to PAL and vice versa. You can even change the resolution in this window.

4. Then select or make a new output folder. Click on "process" at the bottom and let the conversion begin. You can then use Nero or any other compression/burning program of your choice to burn your newly converted NTSC dvd.

That is not the proper way to convert. You are just altering a few bits of data. I have seen the results of this and it does not work well.

It needs to be re-encoded.

When I said I looked into it, I meant it. I have read about just about every way possible to go from PAL to NTSC and vice versa.

The best solution is to buy the correct DVD to start with.
