Good one, lol. You couldn't be more wrong on that one. I was born and raised just off the coast of Venezuela, have lived in several countries in Europe, in the US, and have traveled to many many countries, including Malaysia and Indonesia. I speak 6 languages fluently. Doesn't exactly fit the "never been outside the US" mold heh?

So, I can expect to see Christians all over the world rioting when someone in say, Iran, draws a cartoon they don't like? Or, if some fruitcake in the middle east burns the bible or the US flag, Christians all over the world will go in a tizzy? Not likely. It's just not the same.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Christianity and it's followers are wonderful, just saying that islam as it is practiced around the world is incompatible with freedom. For one thing, how could you possibly have freedom of expression when the believers think they have to 'defend' islam and punish those who say anything they perceive as negative? How can you have equality for men and women when the believers think they have to enforce the roles mandated by some medieval book onto all the women in society?

Indonesia has had a Woman president, the US can't say the same. So much for your lack of freedom statement.

Religion of peace! Basically every religion on Earth has been used by people on this planet to justify their corruption. So I scoff a bit when I see people bashing a specific religion because of what corrupted individuals have done in its' name. It's the people carrying out the misdeeds, NOT the religion. But what I don't understand, how in the FUCK in a world where virtually every 3rd world country now has a lifespan longer than the U.S. even did in 1900, how the FUCK can you justify this type of shit? I'm not bashing Islam, I'm bashing these retards that are carrying out a sentence that their own fucking holy book doesn't endorse. Bunch of pigs.

This is another testimonial for a secular government and a strict separation of church and state.

I noticed when I worked in Trinidad that the Muslim minority was treated quite badly by the majority.

Dunno, I'm not from Trinidad, but I don't see how a minority it treated in some place is relevant: minority groups of any kind (religions, race, political etc) have always been treated poorly just about everywhere in the world. That's not really what this thread is about though.

Uh, so when there are "honor" killings in the UK and women getting attacked in France for not wearing the 'appropriate' attire in certain parts of France, how does that fit into the model, since neither one of those countries is run by religious nutcases.
You're making an error in logic. Rainsford said, "If A, then B." You're erroneously inferring that that means "B if and only if A."

So what's your story if you don't mind?
I'm guessing you come from a fairly wealthy family

Nope, that's not so. Sure, poor and uneducated people are more likely to do some of this crazy stuff, but generally Christians in modern societies don't do that kind of nutty stuff. At the same time, muslims - even in modern countries like the UK and France -- riot when someone publishes a cartoon they don't like. People in Saudi Arabia are not poor (not compared to many other regions of the world), yet that country is a whole other level of crazy.

I personally used to think that ALL religion is the problem, until I started noticing the disparities between first world and third world countries.

Historically, all of the religions have been equally bad. Religions which existed in countries that progressed more quickly moved away from being terrible at a faster pace. And yet, in places that DIDN'T progress (like Africa, the middle east) the religions also didn't progress.

The actions of EVERY religion at one point 'proved' they were not compatible with a free, tolerant and civilized societies. The fact that some religions have become compatible shows that it never had to do with the individual religions.

Finally: Why have I NEVER actually met a Muslim who fits your definition of the faith, or exhibited your claimed incompatibilities. Are you saying the Muslims I have known in my life are not Muslim?

Whether in 1st-world or 3rd-world countries, religions are bad when followers conclude that aspects of what they believe should become rules/laws imposed on others. Fundamentalist Christians in the United States may be more civilized than the Taliban, but their instincts are just as misguided.
