My guess is if they capture any of them, they are going to torture the hell out of them in a way that would make waterboarding look like a day spa treatment.

Its somewhat hard to believe, in all the sound and fury, that the Pakistani army has only killed 200 Taliban. The real question is how many of that 200 are instead innocent civilians, and the total anarchy present when 500,000 or more innocent civilians are being turned into refugees.

Given that are 7,000 or more active Taliban fighters, 200 are a drop in the bucket, and how many of those 500,000 fleeing refugees will now join the Taliban?

I think it's believable. I however think they might be understating their own losses. This is the Taliban's last stand in Pakistan outside the FATA. They're surrounded from all sides and I reportedly they're digging in to fight an urban battle.

@ lemon law: the battle for the cities has not begun yet. Most of these deaths are from ambushes and anti-ambushes.

I don't think many people fleeing will join the Taliban. They've all seen Taliban rule and if they really wanted to join the Taliban they wouldn't have wanted to escape. Most of the people that appear on media hope that the taliban are eliminated soon. There is a difference between this and NATO. 90% of Pakistanis support this offensive and that includes the Swatis.

The good thing about this is that the government, army and the media all have one voice on this. They all believe that the Taliban has to be defeated. Even people who are skeptical of the army and government feel that the Taliban are the greater of the two evils.

Even if the army was lying; if there were major differences between what they were saying and the truth; information would have leaked out into the media - though the Taliban or Swatis. We have also seen no defections or desertions like some armchair generals here claimed would happen.

To TGB, I do not mean to imply that many of those 500,000 refugees will immediately join the Taliban, I am looking further down the road, because I don't think Nato can immediately defeat the Taliban, nor do I think a combined Nato Pakistani Army can do it either, the thing that will defeat the Taliban is the modern ideas that come with economic development.

The Pakistani army risk is that will become about as welcome as Nato if they continue to just use excess violence as the resulting anarchy will always result in a plus for the Taliban and Al-Quida.

meThinks the #'s are inflated to make them look good. after all, pakistan has to show something for the $Billions$ in NEW aid we're giving them.

What do u think?

The Pakistani Army is once again proving that it's only good at invading Pakistan and making it's own people refugees.

And I don't know why the idiot Zardari is p*mping for the Army, given that when he's outlived his usefulness to them in collecting alms from the Americans, he'll be lucky if he's not hanged like his late father-in-law or shot in the head like his late wife.
