Pairing Youtube app on phone with youtube on apple tv

Samsung S4 - Youtube app

The phone youtube app has a pair with device option. But the instructions there don't seem to apply to the the youtube app on TV.

Also, downloaded this app from Google on the phone - called youtube remote. That too does not work with the apple tv's youtube app.

So is there a way to pair youtube on android phone to youtube on apple tv?

I hate the fact that there are just so many variables. Youtube cant pair with youtube because there is apple in between

AirPlay is an Apple-specific feature, so you'd want an iPhone or iPad to use it. Sucks, although it does work well when everything is in place. It's a bit more patchwork on the Android side -- the surest way to send YouTube from Android to a TV is a Chromecast, if you can pick one up in the US.
 
I tried a couple of Air Play apps in Google Play. These are apps that should play video to an Apple TV and bundle their own crappy version of a YouTube app. Unfortunately the first two I tried sucked, "AppleTV AirPlay Media..." made me create an account with some third party (no reason for this) and the YouTube app was horrible, so I gave up on that quick. "PlayTo Lite" looked more promising, it didn't make me sign up to something, and it was using a YouTube.com website instead of some crappy app, unfortunately while it saw my Apple TV it couldn't play any videos to it.

I suspect one of these Air Play apps on Android might work (there are more). But yeah, spending $35 on a Chromecast might not be a bad idea. 🙂
 
Actually, if OP has a Samsung Blu-Ray player or smart TV, there's a pretty decent chance he can cast straight to that.
 
No I dont have a smart tv. With roku and apple tv being already, I dont feel like adding yet another gadget...the chromecast.

I guess I will just make do with youtube functionalty in the apple tv. A bit hard to search, but other than that it can access subscriptions, playlists etc. So it is not horrible.
