yeah, getting them off isnt a problem. (although, like sohcrates suggested, i think i just want to tape them up) i'm just wondering about the paint. Does it have to be baked on?

will it start chipping off after a while?

cool. thanks 🙂

and yeah, just taping up the area around them is what i was planning on doing, unless it absolutely needed to take them off.

Just clean it really good. Use a wire brush or SOS pads. I never heard of "caliper" paint, but I'm asumming it is just high temp paint and you do not have to bake it on, it's just like regular paint.

No, you don't have to bake it if you use Caliper paint. After it dries off the thing will literally bake itself the moment you start using the brakes.

i dont know. Was it a joke? Maybe i misunderstood him as saying something serious. I dunno. (its one of those days.. spent all morning out in the heat washing my car)

all i know is that i know how to do it. I just went to trak auto and picked up a can of red paint. Its really hot outside today (95+ degrees) so i think i'm going to wait until tomorrow to do it.

i'll take pictures .

Regular paint will flake and loo horrible after 1-2 months. The heat will kill it. If you are serious, get to Eastwood and search for PN 10270Z. Not cheap @ 47.99, but you may only have to do it one, and it will ook great for a long time.

Here's some text: "High Temperature Brake Caliper Coating - Eastwood's new caliper coatings are designed for both street and performance applications. Heat resistant to 900 degrees F and easily applied without removing or disassembling the caliper. Our caliper coatings feature a high gloss finish that will not fade with heat or UV exposure. The complete kit provides step-by-step instructions, 2 component color/activation system, mixing jar, stir stick, degreaser and application brush. Coating self-levels to a hard gloss finish that protects calipers from corrosion and chemicals. Enough product to coat 4 calipers. Made in the USA. "

cool` thanks for the link. That stuff definetly looks better than what i picked up. Might have to order some.

You don't have to use caliper paint. A friend of mine did the ones on his Volvo with high-temp paint he picked up at Autozone and they still look good 6-8 months later(I don't recall how long its been). Worse that can happen: You have to take a wire brush to remove the paint and repaint with something else.

For $47.99 vs. <$10, well, its your call.

hip... sorry, you only get one 😛

I was thinking about painting my calipers today too, if you plan on using the spray, take the calipers off, it'll look better that way, i've read a lot of stories of ppl who taped everything up but still got paint in obscure places, if you're gonna do it, do it rite =)
