Painting beige drives to become silver or metallic

Hallo,

Having just got a very nice looking silver case, the Ebuyer V770, I am looking to paint the front of my drives and was wondering what kind of paint you would suggest.

Have seen some standard silver spray paint that seems to imply it's for any surfaces...also seen some "Enamel" spray paint...wasn't sure if that would be better?

Cheers,

Jamie

Spray paint for plastic models works well. Testors has a huge color selection plus a primer to make it stick better.

So I could use Vinyl dye, Enamel OR spray paint then?....I spotted some Spray Enamel in the local hardware shop...sound good?....cause it's spray it shouldn't go on too thick yeah?

All hardware store spray enanels have solvents in them, some of which can damage certain plastics. So be sure the stuff is compatible with your type of plastic or test it on the back side before comitting to the full coats. Or get products known to be compatible with plastic, e.g. Testor's, or use a plastic safe primer under the finish coats.

silver... or metallic, which?

the krylon fusion doesnt come in silver (yet), right?
vinyl dye doesnt come in silver or metallic. these require mica or some sort of crystal in it to make it shimmer. mica is often an additive used to do so in acrylic paints (it's the shiny black stuff in polished granite) from what i have.

YOU DO NOT WANT an enamel. these are hard coats, and when you bend the plastic in anyway, you will crack the paint. paint will crack anyway though, since it hardens harder than the plastic is. you want some sort of paint (color of your choice) with some sort of flex additive.

if you can go to an auto body store get some touch up paint and see if they have any small amounts of flex additive for it. or go to a custom auto shop, and see if they can sell you some paint.
