Painting a Heatsink, VF700 Questions

The Sapphire X800XL Ultimate had a Zalman VF700 painted in a sharp blue to match the video card's PCB. If I were to do that at home to a standard Zalman VF700, how badly will that affect it's cooling performance? Also, does anybody know what direction that Zalman unit pushes/pulls the air?

That's almost certainly anodized, not paint.

Paint would be a bad idea.

If I'm not mistaken, any paint would act as an insulator. Very bad for a heatsink.

I'd guess it's anodized as well.
