I feel dumb asking this question

Any recommendations on a spray paint that will cover a wooden railing well without wearing off too easily?

It’s not really a railing more like a handle, paints I’ve used in the past wear off fast. I’m okay with sealing the paint but I’d like it to end up smooth.
Small job so I certainly don’t need a gallon of paint. I need enough paint to cover fewer than 4 square feet.

Not easily, more of a craft type project it won’t be handled all the time but it will occasionally be handled.
I’m okay using a brush, I thought spray would come out smoother.

eh. fair enough.

i have the best luck in spray paints with rustolum professinal stuff. sand and use their primer, put on several light coats, let them cure fully before you handle it. krylon has gone to crap and all the other ones are junk.

you could use a clear water base poly or spar varnish over the top for more wear resistance.

How about leaving the wood natural, and just oiling it every so often?

My vote goes for giving your wood a good oiling on a regular basis as well!

I thought of that but I’d prefer something with better coverage, don’t want to see the wood grain

How about your basic semi-gloss trim paint? Super Hide is alright. I touch the trim in my house all the time and it still looks brand new.
