Paint thinner on the CPU???? OK combo?

I need to get the remnants of a HS pad off of my CPU and nail polish remover and alcohol just are not cutting it. I used paint thinner on the actual HSF and it worked great. Do you think this is OK to use on the CPU? Reason pro and con please...

Thanks

Lacquer thinner should work, but I'm surprised the nail polish remover didn't. It's probably baked on, so it may require rubbing.

I'm still trying to find a chemical that will remove the bluish epoxy film on the Coppermine. It would be safer to do with a chemical than lapping it off, IMO. Any ideas would be appreciated.
