Paint Shop Pro won't open pictures from Windows Explorer

I recently upgraded to PSP9 and have a problem. WHen I'm in Windows Explorer or EMail or something and I double click on a jpg/gif file to open it up, PSP launches but then comes up and says it couldn't find the file and to make sure it's really there.

If I open PSP manualy and then go to File, Open and get the file it works just fine.

Any idea why it would do this?

I didn't meant hat I actually installed an "Upgrade" version... I removed my old PSP and installed 9. I set u[p the apropriate File associations and in Windows Explorer they lsit the files (JPG and GIF) as Paint Shop Pro Image FIle.

But when I dbl click the file, it launches PSP9, but then gives me an error message saying:

Window scannot find 'C:\xxxx.jpg'. Make sure ou typed the name correctly, and then try again. TO search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search.

Really weird error. Guess I'll have to try hitting up google again.

I have the same exact problem with PSP9. You should email JASC to let them know so the next PSP9 patch resolves this issue.

The more people that write them, the more pressing will be to fix this asap.

Here's how to fix it. No patch necessary.

1. Launch PSP9
2. Go to File, Preferences, File Format associations then click.
3. Put a checkmark on the JPEG (*.jpg, *.jif,*.jpe,.*jpeg). -- Or any file extension you want to use PSP9 with.
4. Click OK.

To check go to explorer/folder where *.jpg file is. Point and left click with mouse.

Actually it's a registry issue that I found the answer to over at jasc's forums...

Solution:
In the registry key:
HKCR\Applications\Paint Shop Pro 9.exe\shell\Open\ddeexec\Application

change the default value from:
Paint Shop Pro

to:
Paint Shop Pro 9

I realize this is a very old post, but users are still having these problems. I am using Windows 10, and when it updated a few weeks ago my PaintShop Pro 5 starting having problems. I could manually open a file, but it would not automatically open from other programs/browsers. I also have PaintShop Pro 9, and it was still fine. I tried uninstalling, reinstalling, changing settings to associate the files, etc. Nothing worked. Eventually I saw this video, and it worked immediately to fix the problem. Hope it helps you too.
