Paint protection films for cars, anyone used them?

We just bought a new car (well, small SUV, Ford Escape), and of course I want to keep it looking great. I was looking around online and saw these clean paint protection films that go on the front of the hood, front, and other areas that get pelted by rocks to protect from chips. There are a few different brands, one made by 3M. This place sells the products you can install yourself, although I'd likely get it professionally installed. Has anyone used a product like this? Can you really notice it when it's on? Does it work well?

I just got some of this same kind of stuff yesterday for my motorcycle, protects the tank though.

Harder than hell to put on a contoured surface. Doesn't look bad once you get it right though. I personally would take it to a tint-shop and ask them if they'll do it.

Oh I would definetly get it professionally installed, provided I can find a place locally that does it.

I install it on my Infiniti M45.. The brand I used was VentureTape. I installed it myself, but I strongly suggest getting it professionally installed. I did an okay job, just really hard to do on curved surfaces. It's not very visible until you are a few feet away. Here's a picture.
