Vector - I prefer Illustrator, but I use Inkscape for the price/legality.
Photo editing - Gimp is fine for my purposes.

I find it interesting the overwhelming response to adobe, even with the cost associated there.

Well, I have been using photofiltre and paintshop pro for sometime now. I have a copy of Adobe Elements 2 that came with something, but I never install it.

I tell you guys what, if you wanna check out an awesome program - check out Paint Shop Pro X at jasc.com - it is the next version of Paintshop Pro that just came out. IMHO this program is SMOKING HOT. I've been using 9 for a while. I downloaded the demo for X - and I've already got my order in for the new version.

It is aweseom IMHO.
