Commercial game developer Mindware Studios has announced plans to create a community created mod for the People Can Fly developed first person shooter Painkiller. There's not much info on the mod, titled Over Dose, but the company has released some screenshots from the mod. the Czech Republic based Mindware Studios released a stealth action game in 2005, Cold War, which was published in the US by Dreamcatcher (who also publishes Painkiller). Here is a snip:

Mindware studios claims that the scope of the project is unprecedented. Most community mods offer one game experience; usually multi-player with a new twist on existing gameplay. The Over Dose mod will offer the gamer a completely new single player experience, including new levels, new weapons and new end bosses!

fortunately i kept it 😛

EDIT: i forgot ... here is the PK "Overdose" website:

PC isn't get the content? wtf?

Painkiller ... oh, what a great game, I almost forgot about that one over time. It was pure madness, mindless shooting, old-school action, Doom and Redneck Rampage on steroids. I liked it a lot. But Battle out of Hell expansion wasn't what I expected, I prefer the original, especially the level design.

This is a great shooter. I was about to put my gold edition on the market this week too. I may have to reconsider. Level design was pretty different in that game....

i liked it ... it was a 'continuation' of PK

and although PK "seemed" like a pure 'twitch shooter' there was MORE ... "depth"

what i liked *best* about PK was the *undocumented* weapons combos [the first time i spun the PK and then launched it ... was like 'whoa, did i miss something in the manual?'

and the early use of the Havok Engine was really mind-boggling ... with precisely timed jumps to get into places that seemed unreachable ... i remember getting a bomb, blowing up a box and then using the spring underneath to launch high into the air to hit a precise spot in a tower to unlock of find something ...

there were unbelievable hidden areas and unlockable levels ... i hope the tradition continues

Arrgghhh !!

I never could get passed those $#@ jumps. I had to get my 10 years old son to get me past those things 😀

The mod sounds interesting  Luckily I still have my copy of the games (PK+BOoH). I caught my wife trying to throw it away last weekend, caused a big argument. Luckily I won that one 😉

I gotta reminder how to install the game patches, I had a heckuva time with that stuff the first go-around.
