Painkiller: Missing textures?

Playing Painkiller on a older GeForce 2 GTS-V. Once in a while on the boss levels, the boss is totally invisible. Audio is there, damage is being done to me - just the boss is invisible. And no, the boss is not suppose to be invisible ;)

I've seen missing and/or corrupt textures before, but never a whole character like this? Sometimes re-loading the level will fix this 'invisible' bug.

Driver issue? Bad install? any ideas?

It could be anything. My guess would be driver related or that maybe the Geforce 2 doesn't run effects from later versions of DirectX very well. That card is long in the tooth, and I'm surprised it can even be used with this game. Try using a different driver version, or upgrade if you can. I haven't played Painkiller up to a boss yet, so I can't say I won't have the same problem with my Geforce 6800.

You know, I checked the box and was shocked. Minimum requirement is a geforce2... Probably still related to this card. I'm sure they only tested it lightly to see it actually ran the game.

Well found 10,00 other Geforce 2 users w/same problem with Painkiller bosses over at some game forum! It all boils down to Direct X 9.0 features trying to run on a Direct X 8.1 card - makes sense. Suprisingly this GeForce 2 GTS-V (210/360) card ran the game pretty smoothly even with some bells and whistles.....for a while. I got slapped in the face with a slide show around the 'Military Base' level. Well, going to replace my 9800Pro with a 6600 GT so I don't think I'll be in for any more suprises, thanks all.

Not sure I'm following you here... but the 9800p plays PK excellently. I got it for Xmas, the only thing I noted was that I had to back down on the OC on my 9800p due to a little artifacting. Doesn't matter, the game runs butter-smooth anyway.

BTW, THe G2 couldn't be DX 8.1 card. The Geforce4 series is only DX 8.0. Maybe a DX 7 ?

oops, getting a little ahead of myself here. I was just temporarily using that GeForce2 card while I RMA'd my 9800Pro - the 9800Pro ran Painkiller just fine. The GeForce2 card problem was that it didn't render some Direct X 9.0 code. Sorry about the confusion. ;)
