Pain in the back of my knee...

Okay, so while playing basketball, I dont remember exactly what triggered it, but i began to feel like a pinching feeling in the back left of my knee, i played on, it wasnt bad until one time i went to just take a normal jump shot, and as i came down, i just couldnt land on the knee, my body wouldnt let me do it... I hobbled off the court... The pain settled down, and i played another game, after this game however, when i got home, I still had the pain, also, if i stand up straight, and attempt to lift my leg to like tuck under me for say, a stretch of my thighs, i cant get it higher than like 6" off the ground before it hurts more so than normal... the pain is on the inside of my leg, right behind the knee, but offset to the left on my right knee... any ideas? just normal shit? uh doctor now shit? meh who knows shit?

thanks

Not normal in any way. Unless normal is bad. Sounds like you may have torn something, to be honest with you.

I have to say you are very clearly describing a tear of the posterior horn of the medial meniscus. It may not be that, but I'd see a doc asap. It's a common tear location particularly during basketball and its symptoms very closely match what you're describing, almost textbook. Like I said, it may be something else.

You need to see a doctor mate. That sounds like a pain I had and it healed with time and some simple exercises + ankle weights. I'm not sure I trust my doctors diagnosis but he thought there was some strain due to imbalance in strength between my hamstring and my calf (I had been doing a lot of cycling at the time).

Imbalances really can cause some pretty serious issues, if that's any consolation 🙂

it still stings after sleeping... if i stretch my leg out straight and put weight on my shin area it gets more painful...

and well, when standing, after a while, my knee gets real unstable feeling, but also i can hardly stand straight and hold m knee upright.

It's pretty much you should go "see the doctor now shit." Call the orthopedist/orthopedic surgeon and get checked out. It definitely seems like something may be torn.

Im going to the campus medical center, which is integrated with the hospital systems, and they would be able to get me an appointment with an ortho if they determine something is wrong... this sucks. ive NEVER had ANY sort of serious injury or potentially serious injury.. dammit

Classic meniscus tear. A medical professional will test your knee for pain in certain areas, though, while twisting your leg around to truly diagnose it.

I agree that this is a symptom, but clearly we're not professionals and therefore don't give a professional opinion.

Don't freak out until the doctor tells you what's up. You'll be alright either way.

Seeing how it cleared up when I did the prescribed exercises, I'm not sure why I question him...

My knee feels much less unstable, and also it feels a lot better today, there is still the slight pinchy feeling, but nothing like yesterday. I have decided to hold off further pursuing treatment as of right now.

Fuck that. Go get it looked at. Pain is there for a reason: it's an indication that there's a problem.

The symptoms you described point to a pretty significant injury.

I wish someone would have knocked me out and dragged me to the hospital when I fucked up my knees. If I hadn't kept putting so much strain on them I might be be able to run for more than 20 minutes.

Dude, just go see a doctor. What you were describing does not magically disappear. It comes back and bites you in the ass, or in this case, the back of the knee.

I saw a doctor... she saw no extra movement w/in my knee... My knee feels fine, walking, up stairs, twisting, standing, bending, there is no pain there anymore...

well it still hurts a bit and is causing me to have pain in my other knee, so when i get home on wednesday, I am talking to my parents and telling them i need it diagnosed further...
