Look at the fucking picture I posted.

Obamacare.jpg

Now when Google started these Ads, which are made to APPEAR as search results, there was a long thread in OT and a huge uproar in the geek world that Google had sold out and this was shady marketing.

But I guess if your side is using it, it's a-ok? Right?

It says Ad, why the outrage?

Note it only lost because of technical immunity, not because the placement is not intentionally misleading.

What's funny? The entire geek world was just about universally disgusted by this when it started.

Now it seems many have no problem with it.

Funny how that works.

Thats because people started noticing the big box around it and the word Ad in the upper right corner.

It says Ad, why the outrage?

Why the outrage? Because the government is wasting taxpayer money on advertisements! Didn't Obama vow to cut spending? Instead, he is wasting taxpayer money on frivolous things like ads and vacations to Hawaii.

This might sound geeky but I hope someone could explain it.

I use a hosts file modification so ads get blocked, including clicking on a google ad. I am referring to this site:

http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm

So normally, I click on a google ad to test it and it comes up "Page Not Found". If I click on the obamacare ad, it goes to the site. To me, that says it isn't even going through googleads. Just wanted to point that out.

Don't really care one way or another about it since it is an ad. I don't believe this is the first time the government has ever paid for advertising.

The box isn't blue. There is a very faint pink background to the ad, and a very tiny "ad" at the far upper right corner, or did you not bother to look at my picture?

The ads that Google puts at the top of search results have resulted in lawsuits, and general outrage over their placement, and intentionally misleading nature.

Here is one of the lawsuits:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goddard_v._Google,_Inc.

Note it only lost because of technical immunity, not because the placement is not intentionally misleading.

What's funny? The entire geek world was just about universally disgusted by this when it started.

Now it seems many have no problem with it.

Funny how that works.

Maybe because only a complete retard would mistake the ad space for natural search results.

No because you're a stupid little idiot who cries faux outrage over the most inane bullshit.

And yet another personal insult from Red. It must be nice to get away with behavior that lesser forum members would be punished for.

Since when is the truth an insult?

Now If I were to post that you are a sniveling little bitch who whines like a whore with sand in her vaseline that'd be an insult because there's no way I'd know if you'd whine if you had sand in your vaseline.

Thanks for proving my point. Stay classy, Red.

That makes it first result to a large majority of the population which is why it's so devious and wrong. We simply MUST stay diligent against this administration and expose them for what they are. Stay awake patriots, expose him.

So because a bunch of people are too fucking stupid to understand how google works its devious and wrong.
Also you aren't a patriot.

http://www.searchenginejournal.com/search-engine-advertisements-misleading-to-public/22/

A recent study has shown that most average US citizens do not know the difference between a search engine’s “sponsored listing” and real search engine results.

When Google started this, the uproar everywhere, including ATOT was huge. Putting ads at the top of search results and formatting them exactly the same as search results was seen as misleading.

If you can click on the ad, how is it blocked?

Google ads show the link. Once I click on a google ad, it goes through googleadservices, which in the hosts file, is pointing to the loopback address (127.0.0.1). So it normally fails. Most other ads on any other site automatically show up as "page not found". Google places their links differently, I guess.

It's an AD Amused. I suppose the gov should be legally barred from buying those? I missed your crusade on these forums about googles offensive practice of making ads look like search results for the purpose of delivering click throughs to their clients. Teh horror.

The only fail in this thread is that you didn't get banned for your mod call out. You have exponentially increased in juvenile, delusional and partisan points over the past few years, and were always suspect. Mostly clean record my ass.

We're supposed to be mad because instead of helping the economy, the government is wasting taxpayer money on these useless ads. More pork barrel spending. AGAIN!

Cry more, bitch.

The only people who think I'm partisan are partisans. Funny how that works, huh? Amazing how self proclaimed "liberals" think one of the most liberal people on the board is a partisan right winger.

True delusion lies in the accusation that reading the very core documents of our government in the senate is EVER a waste of money.

 It was a waste of time and money.

Maybe we can look forward to more waste of time and money from the GOP such as a new seeking of a flag-burning amendment and the search for a new Terri Schiavo case to allow those weepy self righteous tears to flow - by the way, infringing on the rights of private citizens (that you hold so dear...).

Flow my orange stained tears, the congressman Boehner said...

Sure it was a waste of money.

But, I'm more shocked that our federal government costs $1.1 million per day to run. That seems absolutely outrageous and unnecessary. How bout our dear leaders start doing their part and do without all of the unnecessary perks they get.

Every little bit helps, right?

Ask that to the person that represents your state - then ask yourself if you voted for them...
