I was thinking of getting the Weber Genesis Platinum B, does anyone have any opinions on that model? It's about ~670 shipped at Amazon.

I think it's a Genesis Silver something-or-other. I've had it for about 9 years or so and it still works great.

for the love of all things sacred, get a CHarcoal grill and not a gas grill. THat combined witha charcoal chimney starter and you're set.

I have a Silver A, purchased about 4 1/2 years ago. Not very happy with the Weber at all. It worked great at first. The first 2 years were totally problem free. Then the igniter broke. No big deal, I can handle manual start. Then the flames burned through the housing for the igniter, burned it completely (at least it wasn't working anymore). This year, the first time I turned the grill on, only half of one burner would start. I got some instructions on how to clean the burners and that seems to have helped a little. The porceline cooking surface is hard to clean (IMO) and the flavorizer bars are rusting. Replacing anything in the grill is very expensive but cheaper than a new one I guess.
My next grill will NOT be a weber.

I've had the Genesis gold C for about a year, works great. The stainless steel grates are easy to clean. My gf has the babyQ, awesome portable grill. Heats up real quick. Seems like the cast iron grates stay hotter than the stainless on the gold C.

I'm interested in getting the Weber Q (or baby Q, still not sure yet). I've never eaten grilled food from a gas grill, but my tiny apartment "balcony" won't fit any big, decent grills.

I was wondering though: Can you put wood chips between the grill and flame to add flavor or is that a disaster waiting to happen? Also, can you use it as a charcoal grill as well?

Thanks :)

Go for the Vermont Castings. Had mine for over a year, and it outperforms my neighbor's weber. Better heat distribution, and better construction. Go for the 4 burner (~$650). It is stainless steel, which costs you a few hundred more on the weber, and it is made like a tank. Only carried by Home Depot.

Weber Genesis Gold - Love it.

I can't speak for other brands, but one of the nice things about Webers is that the parts are all interchangeable and you can easily replace any individual piece if it corrodes or is dented or breaks, etc...

Same questions for me, I am looking at getting the Q due to size limitations.

^ I know from mine that you CANNOT put charcoal bricks in the Baby Q. There's a huge gas burner that takes up the whole underside and there's 1) no room for charcoal and 2) you'll definitely fubar something up if you try.

The charcoal/gas debate rages on. I've solved both problems by buying both. I have the Weber 22 1/2 inch charcoal and an inexpensive gas. There is no need to pay $$$ for a gas grill when an inexpensive one will cook just the same. If you have $350 to spend, you can get both and if you have space, I say go for it. If you can't, get gas. Since it requires less effort, you'll probably get more use out of it.

You can get one of these or one of these in your gas grill

Have you tried using wood chips in it, or do you think that wouldn't be possible because of the gas burner? And how is the taste of the food using the Baby Q?

I have the Weber Genesis Silver B (green top). It's the 2003 model. My wife and I got it as a wedding gift and I think they retail for around $400. Best gift ever. Cooks great, no flairups, well worth the money.
