pagesile.sys questions

If I was bored, it would be best to have Speed Disk put it at the "end" of the drive right? Because that's where it spins the fastest?

And, if I have a pagefile on multiple hard drives, would it be striped and quicker, or just used like a JBOD RAID array? Use up one then move on..

First I wouldn't trust Speeddisk on my computer............

The PageFile works best on the very outside of the hard drive where the surface speed is fastest.

Putting the PageFile across multiple hard drives would be like RAID 0 or striped and be very fast. But don't put it on the same hard drive as the operating system. Even on another hard drive is an improvement.

Bozo 😀

I have doubt though. Say if the read/write head is usually parked at the center of the disk, then each time the OS needs to access the pagefile (swap out or read in), the head will have to do a full stroke (seek), and we know that seek time is the rate limiting step, much worse than latency (spin speed). I guess it depends on how the OS does the disk scheduling. But again, I don't have proof on this either.

Mkay, I only have one drive anyway so the first question was more of a philisophical one for me. But, I put the file at the end opf the drive, and speed disk put it along with all the frequently used stuff at the end.. so I'm thinking head travel wont be too much of a factor.

The fun part though, is that this "drive" is actually software RAID 0, so it probably wont even help. 😀 I'm more or less just seeing what this program does.
