So now once in a while (probably every 20-30 link clicks) when im browsing ill click a link and then it will just hang there for like 10 seconds then give me this message:

Server not found
Firefox can't find the server at en.wikipedia.org.

* Check the address for typing errors such as
ww.example.com instead of
www.example.com

* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.

* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

It does it to random links (any website) and then immediately when i click try again it immediately goes to the page i was trying to go to.

Its not a huge problem I'm just confused as to why this is happening.

I tried power cycling my router/modem(they are the same thing, i have U-verse) but it has made no difference.

When mine did this it was the cable companies 6 year old modem dieing a slow death. Had to argue with them to replace it and it worked fine (took 3 weeks before they agreed to replace it)...then I promptly found a new service provider :)

The problem is with your Internet connection - i.e., the modem and/or the ISP. Get it replaced and go from there.

Go into the TCP/IP settings of your network card and manually enter in another DNS server that is different from your ISP's default such as Verizon's: 4.2.2.1

This same thing used to happen to me with my ISP's DNS servers until I manually switched it to Verizon's.

ok so i switched it to 4.2.2.1 and i think it may have solved the problem.

Are there any disadvantages to this? And is there anyway i can do this to my modem/router so i wont have to do this on every computer i have?

There are no disadvantages to this. You can set your TCP/IP settings back to auto and put the DNS server IP right into your router. All your computers will automatically receive the new DNS address. You may have to do a ipconfig release/renew though.

Here is a link to what benefits opendns has: http://www.opendns.com/solutions/homenetwork/

If any of those features interest you you can go ahead and sign up, its free, and use them. Otherwise you can just use the ones I posted since you said it seems to be working.

What ISP are you using by the way?

ATT U-Verse. Kinda sucks, i hear it depends how they hook it up to your house though because i guess they have fiber optic on thier side, but it runs into my house through the phone lines.

TV cuts out sometimes, download speed is OK, phone sucks, at least no download limit like comcast though
