Page File

Greetings all,

I just built a new desktop and have a gig of OC'ed OCZ 3700 Plat. mem... Should I set my page file to 1536/3072, or is that too much, not enough, too wasteful?

What do you guys think?

I used to get into the whole pagefile optimization thing, but truthfully, never noticed much difference no matter what I did. So, now I just let Windows determine the best settings and let it be. Sure, there will be those who will argue for a set size to avoid fragmentation, and I don't have a problem with that. But, my experience is let XP decide, and do regular defrags.

Hard drives are so large now that pagefile size shouldn't be a determining factor when considering efficiency and what to cut down.

I have always made the page file 1.5 times the size of the ram in the machine, as well as set the min/max size to the same number, but i agree with Slikkster. i havent really noticed a difference either way

I've messed around with several settings, including putting an additional page file on a separate physical drive. There has never been a noticeable difference in any setting.

I have a gig of RAM on my rig and my current setting is a custom setting - a minimum page file size of 512 MB and a maximum of 1536 MB. I figure this setting will allow the computer to use more RAM and thus speed things up a little.

I suggest you play around with settings a little bit and go with the one that you like.
