Boy howdy. That is one tasty dish! I had heard about it many times over my lifetime (I'm 20) and just recently decided to try it out and see what all the hype was about. I must say, it was very good, and easy to make. I'm not sure if I like it better than just a classic stir fry, but it's certainly got a distinctive flavor to it. Anybody else a fan?
 
I am pretty surprised at your reaction. I love Pad Thai but even I admit it has a foul odor. If I was going to try something that exotic for the first time, I'd get it at restaurant which can presumbly prepare it correctly. Even if you're the best cook in the world, how would you know how it's supposed to taste? After all, you've never had it.
 
First Pad Thai I had was in Bangkok last year.. 25 cents from a street vendor. I have not been able to come close to making it that good.

Mmmmm Banana pancakes.. why do no Thai restaurants serve them?

Yeah, I was kind of leery of making it myself the first time, but I think it turned out well. My parents had eaten Pad Thai before, recently, and they both said that it was very similar to what they had eaten at a Thai restaurant. So, I have no idea if it's really what it's supposed to taste like, but what I made turned out good 🙂 Maybe I just got lucky?

i love Thai food.

best i have effer had was from a little place in town. $7 for a chicken curry yummm.

sad part is they got shut down for health reasons. heh but it was good!
 
I have not had good pad thai in about 4 years. there used to be this thai place on Mass Ave in Boston. It cost $5.95. It was cheap and it was fantastic. they have since closed down🙁 No place comes cose.
 
Ugh.. I tried pad thai for the first time during the summer when I was on my 'try something new' lunch regime (in the food court). Well, payed $7 for a whole foam box, first 10 bites were delicious. Next 20 bites trying to finish it were a nightmare. The classic sweet/sour-ish taste of thai food kicked in, and my stomach was starting to feel icky. No more thai for me.

Well I wasn't buying it in bulk🙂 Oh, and they serve it in foam DISHES if you eat there. But just to add, I've had other Thai stuff from real (ceramic plate!) restaurants, still not my thing.

I bought Pad Thai (no egg) from Bangkok street vendors for about a week and never got sick! Eating with kabob-stick chopsticks was a pain at first, but I got use to it.

I also ate more cut pineapple that week than any other time in my life.

I should go back.
