My wife's grandmother usually oven roasts a bigass fillet mignon and then all the guests bring side dishes.

As far as games, I'm partial to Time's Up when it comes to party games. Just this weekend, I played with 5 friends and in frustration, flipping the bird was established as the new hand signal for Nietsche.

do you mean beef tenderloin? A filet is only as big as a steak.

Yes, the whole tenderloin...I suppose "filet mignon roast" is the more appropriate term.

Here in PA... Christmas Eve parties are almost exclusively pizza and beer/wine.

That being said... the game of the night is Ping Pong, Air Hockey, or Pool.
With a splash of Madden Tournament.

Tomato, tomato. She calls it filet. I call it filet. You can call it whatever you want as long as the butcher gives you the piece you want 🙂

Here's what we've done since 1964:

Instead of a dinner, a buffet consisting of high quality cold cuts, high quality bread and rolls, potato salad, macaroni salad, pickles, olives, marinated artichoke hearts, lettuce and tomatoes, mustard, mayo and any other appropriate condiments. I'm sure I've forgotten something.

Our guests have always loved it. Leftovers get wrapped in plastic wrap and brought out to be finished on Christmas day.

Desserts of your choice. We don't usually serve dessert because everyone is stuffed anyway.

Good idea...

Thanks. Next month will make 41 years of doing it. My friends look forward to it.

Naked Twister
There is not enough liquor in the world to let me get caught between my parents and my in laws in a naked twister gone wrong accident.

I would not want those photos on the internet...

yeah, well we would.

I love Christmas parties and that is because of all the food.

This is what i would do:

Appitizers:
Deviled eggs
Peel and eat shrimp and cocktail sauce (always a favorite)
A few wedges of good cheese (sharp cheddar, swiss, any other hard to medium cheeses) with green and red grapes, water crackers (or any other gourmet crackers)
cruidite (sp?) and a good dip
spinish artichoke dip in a bread bowl

Dinner:
I would stay away from turkey and go with cornish hens or a nice ham and maybe a good pork roast
spicy portobello mushrooms and roasted red peppers
My pick for the "meat": Burbon glazed Ham
scalloped potatos gratin
Spring Green Salad

I just would spend a few minutes browsing foodtv.com finding things that might sound good to you!

Dessert
a custard pie
strawberry rhubarb pie
flourless chocolate torte

Hope that can give you some ideas. 🙂

Man, those sound so good right now! Please invite me to a party if you have the above.

Our Christmas-Eve tradition is crab, but my dad doesn't like seafood so mom always makes lasagna for him. Lasagna is a pretty easy dish to make large-scale for people.
