Packets sent = packets received? Someone downloading off my computer? how can i tell?

i have dsl. i saw 37k packets received, and 30k packets sent.

why such a large # of packets going out of my computer?! is someone downloading off me? how can i tell?

i have no sharing programs enabled, but a few weeks ago i downloaded a mpg file and when i doubleclicked, a whole bunch of ads appeared. (damn hidden programming)

did someone load a backdoor program into my comp?

Run adaware and antivirus.

i did..nothing. but if that mpg file installed a hidden program/back door, would adaware/antivirus catch it?

try spybot search and destroy. If it does not come up with anything suspicious, after getting current profiles, then you are reasonably assured to be free of baddies.

that'll show you how much you d/l'ed and u/l'ed.

or just get zonealarm or something. that'll let u know whenever a problem is trying to access the internet.

Get zone alarm to see what is trying to get out or install a packet sniffer.
