packet filtering

Just wondering if there was anyway to filter out a single packet without using a proxy server or a 3rd party software.

I don't think you are giving us enough to go on...filtering a single packet, a single protocol, as single address? I'm lost

umm i guess i dont know how to explain it...

a single packet - as a single data package (size and data)

does this make any sense?

you can use a sniffer to find out what data is being sent on your network. is that kind of what your looking for?

the end result of what i'm trying to find:

someone is sending fake packets to a server causing the data to get screwy...i know a sniffer and a proxy server can find this data packet and can be configured to block it...just wondering if it can be done without either one.

any commercial grade firewall software or firewall can do this for you.

A router should be able to as well.

But I'd be more concerned about why this is happening. A server's data should never be corrupted no matter what kind of data and packets are hitting it. You might want to make sure you have all the recent updates for the OS and software.
