Well here is the problem:

4computer LAN [2 Win98SE, 1 Linux, 1 NT4 (sp6)]
Connected with a Netgear 8port 10/100 switch

NT4 box's config:
200pro
96megs ram
2x13gig IDE HDs
Ricoh 4x4x24 CDRW
SCSI:
24xCDROM
1gig HD
Sony DLT-8000 Tape drive

Streaming mp3s from either of the 98SE boxes from the NT4 box causes skips. NT4 WAS running web/ftp servers. Turned those off and any other extreneous services. CPU@2% usage RAM at 50meg usage out of 96megs.

Looked at the CPUusage/Network packet/work queue performances for the NT4 box to see if there is any corralation, nothing. Intermitently network packets drop to 0 (skip happens) but CPU and work queues for the HD stays constant.
The network has no traffic. Streaming MP3s from the Linux box is perfect.
Someone suggested using DMACHECK.exe from SP CDs to enable DMA on the controllers, I've done so without resolution.

Some services were running such as Seagate Backup Exec Suit. How ever, I've had those running before when the problem was not there. I don't quiete know when the problem started to occur.

I am planning on changing out the cable. Any other ideas would help. Thanks.
