Who would win - a pack of 1000 male, full grown, ants, versus a single full grown african lion?

The arena area consists of a 50 foot diameter steel cage, with bars that are 1 1/2" thick, cage is 30 feet high, and bars are roughly 6 inches apart. The arena floor consists of packed dirt, generally dry, interspersed with a few trees that are 25 feet tall (oak saplings).

The ants are all in their prime age, without any physical blemishes, as is the african lion. No outside interference is allowed (no fire hoses, people yelling, etc.). The fight starts off with the 1000 ants being raised into the arena via a floor platform, in a cage, which then drops once the platform is fully raised. The lion is likewise raised into a similar cage, 25 feet away from the cage where the ants were raised in.

The ants are all part of the same pack, therefore already have an established hierarchy with an alpha male queen as their leader.

fixed :awe:

1000 bullet ants will own a lion

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paraponera

the pain caused by this insect's sting is purported to be greater than that of any other Hymenopteran, and is ranked as the most painful according to the Schmidt Sting Pain Index, given a "4+" rating, above the tarantula hawk wasp and, according to some victims, equal to being shot, hence the name of the insect. It is described as causing "waves of burning, throbbing, all-consuming pain that continues unabated for up to 24 hours"

If anyone puts on a glove of Bullet Ants = Chuck Norris

Initiation rites[edit]

The Satere-Mawe people of Brazil use intentional bullet ant stings as part of their initiation rites to become a warrior.[7] The ants are first rendered unconscious by submerging them in a natural sedative and then hundreds of them are woven into a glove made out of leaves (which resembles a large oven mitt), stinger facing inward. When the ants regain consciousness, a boy slips the glove onto his hand. The goal of this initiation rite is to keep the glove on for a full ten minutes. When finished, the boy's hand and part of his arm are temporarily paralyzed because of the ant venom, and he may shake uncontrollably for days. The only "protection" provided is a coating of charcoal on the hands, supposedly to confuse the ants and inhibit their stinging. To fully complete the initiation, however, the boys must go through the ordeal a total of 20 times over the course of several months or even years.[8]

Probably the ants would eat the lion before the lion even realizes he's actually in a fight with them.:hmm:
