No time line has been set yet. But do you think this is feasible in the next 5 years?

Agreed.

And with "no timeline set", you know they aren't taking it that seriously, either. Probably an attempt to get outside investment in their company.

Good point, haven't the Japanese already announced that they're working on their space elevator? wonder which one gets built first. Or at all...

I'd say that by "artificial" standards (meaning non-terra ferma?), Sealand has that claim beat.

...well, I guess they still have that "country" part to figure out. 😛

Sealand (or whatever they're calling that old burned out WWII naval platform now) is in the UK's territorial waters, though. The only reason it still exists is because they haven't bothered blowing it up yet 🙂

Pie in the sky project. I'm not sure how they plan to get enough buoyancy to support an island ( I assume it will have a layer of dirt/sand above the plastic) without an air pocket or something.

Capped bottles will float nicely, and if I didn't imagine the whole thing, that's how the island I mentioned previously was created.

i'd be incredibly amazed and awestruck if this actually happens...

are they planning to make a floating island or an ACTUAL island?

It sounds like a floating island. They say it'll be easy enough to find due to the currents. That implies that it'll be moving around, but in a limited area.
