I returned my drive as I have been spending too much and finding the need to resell them at a loss. There's no list for the contents inside the box. I bought a real Liteon LDW_851S.

Russ, check your email. I sent you a msg on where to find the PD 🙂

It would also be helpful if those of you would post what color your drive is.

Very good idea K-squared! And thanks for making the effort to help everyone interested in these drives.

Don't forget, it looks like these drives will be on sale for another week for the same end price.

Is there any consistency to the serials on the black units? I remember ICR5 indicating that there was a round sticker on the upper left corner of the box fronts indicating that the box contained a black bezel drive. (check the link I've credited to ICR5 in the OP

4784xxxxxxxx LiteOn 811s. BTW, received a 30 off 150 from OM in the mail. Went back to the store and they applied the coupon, so the drive ends up costing me $40. WHere in the world are you gonna' get an 8x DVD+-RW for $40?

THanks OP.

Just went to officemax and picked up one of these Pacific Digital with the serial# 4324xxxxxxxx and after opening it was a rebadged Lite-On 851-S. Does anyone have links to a review on this drive? It should be pretty good.

from Officemax..pkged as Arita/Ridata 4x..burn @ 8x 🙂 ..another person I know got the 2.4x spindle those id as RicohJPN00 ..only get 2.4x out of those.

I got one of these Liteon drives yesterday and saw that OM had a 5 pack of Memorex 4x DVD-r's on sale for $5 (with instant rebate). I think these are crappy media but a cheap(er) way to learn how to burn correctly - only one coaster so far... Off to Sams to check spindle prices...

Since OM is going to be having these drives on sale again starting Sunday for $109.99 minus $40 mir and Staples will be offering them for $20 more with a smaller $30 mir, it's time to think of a PM on the PD 8x Mach 8.

MysticMan has started a new thread on the Staple's offering and has some good links to the various drive incarnations at: New Staples Pacific Digital 8x DVDRW +-

Oh, remember to Price guaranty OM on your PD purchases this week for $10. OTD price will be $10 less even though AR price remains the same.

It still comes out cheaper for me buying at OM this week.

I used a $10 off $100 OM coupon so my OTD price was 119.06. Next week I'll go get the extra $10 + tax back (10.83) and send in the rebate - total price AR $58.23

If I were to pm to Staples and apply a $20 coupon (if one becomes available) the final price would be $65.25

If you can - go pricematch today (Saturday 2/28/04). Current price on the register comes up as $149-80IR ==> Yes, $69 out the door and the rebate forms prints as well. I don't think this will last into tomorrow when the new ad pricing kicks in. 🙂

my 4x is FINE, thank you 😛

not gonna upgrade anytime soon, until 16X is out, which'll be a while, but im not complaining, i have a dvd-rw, so im set. for those who dont have a dvd-rw, go get this one. 🙂

Good thing I visited the officemax in the middle of nowhere. I asked the guy if he had anymore pacific digitals in stock in the back and he comes back w/ 4pds to restock and mine. The one I had was a liteon but then i noticed that as he was putting them in the shelves, that all the others were nec drives!!! Anyways he said they had like a whole stack of them in the back and to told me to tell my friends if they want any....so i grab 3. One for me one for my bro and one for my friend in cali and then find out about the nice new price. =) Very good day.

Picked one up in Strongsville Ohio for $69 after rebate. Had to ask for Pacific digital because they had khypermedia on shelf. Worker found a PD for me and got it home and it is lite-on 811s serial #4284######.

Got in on this deal and purchased a PD drive.

Got an eMail today with a link to the status of my $50 rebate. Status = " Invalid UPC".

Anyone else have this problem?

Joe

Joe, quite a few people on FW are reporting the same thing. Call the number on the rebate form and I'm sure it will get straightened out.

Hey,
There is a major problem with the rebate center for OfficeMax right now. Almost all of the rebates that sent in, some how the wrong forms are being used. So most if not all are invalid. What you need to do is call the rebate center and request that they fix the problem. They will gladly help you with it.

I had the same thing happen on an earlier OM rebate. I got the email notice, clicked the link to check the status and got "invalid UPC" notice.

I called them and they corrected it without explaining what had happened.

I think it may just be a delay tactic to hold you $ for a few weeks more 😉

Yes - I received the "Invalid UPC" status also. Upon looking closely, I see that the "Pacific Digital $50" rebate I had sent in was entered as an "I/O Magic rebate"! Sure - If they enter it as the wrong product, my UPC would be incorrect.

A phone call fixed it ("valued customer of OfficeMax BS). 4-6 weeks.

Well, at least it can be fixed!
