Happened to find this on Sam's site today. Shipping for me would be $4.70 so total is $164.61.

Lowest pricewatch for this unit is $188 + $15-$18 shipping so I guess this is good.

Obviously rebaged, but I have no idea by what company.

Specs on Pacific Digital's web site says retail kit comes with 2.0 USB PCI card.

The link I had is session specific, so just go to samsclub.com and look for the pacific digital external 2.0 usb cd-rw, currently $159.91.

So I need a PCI USB 2.0 card to use this burner? I need a ext. burner for my IBM Laptop. Will the USB on my T21 work with it?

The drive is USB 2.0 spec - most motherboards still support USB 1.0 (1.2?). Anyway, yes you'd most likely need a USB 2.0 card/adapter.

I don't know if it's downward compatible or not - by that I mean I don't know if it would still work with USB 1.0/1.1 or not.

Can someone more knowledgeable on this subject comment on backward compatibility with previous USB standards?

But is this a good price?

I picked up one of these about 3 wks ago @ the Sams Club in Latham Farms, Colonie, NY. It was priced like $149.71 on close out. Used to be $199, it's a Lite-on. model# LTR-24102B with black face. The reason why I know is that I took the CDRW out and put in DVD-R burner for the portable USB 2.0.
