beige I suppose but then again looks more offwhite to me..the MadDog 16x drives at OM were black NEC3500s I believe

Wow, if this is an ND3500, that's hot! Any idea what color the faceplate is? Been looking for an ND3500 in black for under $50 recently.

I'm still not understanding the whole "easy rebate thing". What exactly does Staples have to gain, if they don't hold your money for an extended period of time (interest accumulation, etc.)? I guess they are still counting on a significant number of people to simply not apply for the rebate, but if you don't have to take the effort to physically mail it in, then the "laziness barrier" is very low.

I wonder if this is actually designed to pad their accounting numbers in terms of retails sales volumes, since they can account for their sales using the pre-rebate price, I expect. I wonder if that has something to do with it?

is this only B&M?

I went to the Staples site and added this to my cart, but I don;t see anything about the $20 instant saving or easy rebate.

edit: didn't realize sale didn't start until 1/31.

I did this on line because staples is 45 min's one way from me.

It is listed as $92.94 and there is a coupon code for $3.

I couldn't get the $3 one to work with the $15 dollar one.

So for me it was/is $92.94 -$30 Rebate -$15 off Coupon= $47.94 + tax w/ free shipping

Thank's Op !!!

The staples I went to this all seem to be BenQ..had various serial numbers....some 143xxx, 410xxx...but all had a larger sticker on back given BenQ 16x dvdrw spec and part #xxx-BQ3-xxxx

the drive was oem with G7C9..and get this PD includes a BenQ cd with tools that work with retail not oem drive

they also include what looks like a 40 pin cable ..not 80

FYI: for good 16x speeds better to use an 80 pin cable

I think I got a $10 coupon in the mail.

Maybe I could combine coupons to get this even cheaper.

Is this a good burner?

Maybe a dumb question but can you burn single layer discs with this?

Thanks

Mine was beige. 1852-16-BQ. 40 pin cable :(

Double layer 16X RW +/- you can't beat it for $45+tax.

I'll be happy when there is some DL media on sale. People post all the great DL drive deals, I have 2 now, but I can't use the DL media without selling plasma on the side.

Without wanting to start any flame wars...at cdfreak..many feel the BenQ 1620 retail/oem is the best dvdrw for write quality..fast at 16x....there are some drives that will write 16x faster but without as good quality....TG02 dvd-r perform excellent at 16x, TY yuden000 02 are very good quality discs too...

MCC003 8x dvd+r, MCC004 16x dvd+r(I think 16x anyway...i have not seen them)

the Nec 3500 is very good writer as well

The Impression I've gotten over on fattwallet is that ALL of these drives are BenQ (at least, no one in that thread has gotten anythig but a BQ). Picked one up this afternoon, been burning just fine.

Ok, having an odd problem with this drive. About 75% of the time on startup, the computer will lockup after the bios, after the white bar runs across the bottom of the screen, and right before the windows bootup screen appears. Any ideas on whats wrong?

Anyone know how long it will take to burn at 16x on this drives, I've heard that its not constant 16x on most drives it goes 4-6-8-12-16. If it starts out at higher maybe 6x it could be quicker. Can someone post some results.

The problem may be your master/slave/CS jumper settings.

Check to make sure the IDE connections haven't come loose. That could cause that problem. In fact, check all the cables, and reseat the cards/memory. It's possible something may have gotten knocked loose when you put in the drive.

And the last thing, that may be a long shot... How old/powerful is your power supply? Did you finally tip the scales with the new optical drive?

Just look on back for a add on label on the box...it will give 2.4x dual layer(drive is upgradable to 4x with g7p9 or b7p9 firmware)...this label will have a string numbers...xxxxx-BQ3-xxxx this should mean BenQ

what dates are people getting on manufacture....its on the drive
