I did not see this on the web but I just got it when I called their number 1-888-884-2DSL.

NO Contract. First three months 19.95 then regular 49.95 plus external modem for 49.95 no setup charge.

My connection is supposed to be on-line by 13th!!!.

I'm currently on DTV no contract, and I wonder if I should switch.

Anyone find a link confirmation for this?
 

Get DirectTV Broadband (aka Telocity). They have some kind of discount for new customers. $49.95 a month, they loan you the modem and they give you a static ip. Their my ISP and they use Pac Bell for delivery for me. It's wicked fast. I get sustained 150-160K a sec.

And don't forget to use your AE blue when you sign up with DirectTVDSL for a $75 rebates and if you ask nicely, they even waived the $25 shipping! Now they have the first 2 months free then $50/month.
 
I'm still on their fixed ip $39/month plan. It makes it harder to consider moving even though my cats need some breathing room..

It used to be dynamic. Now it's PPPoE.
It's software does not work w/ WinXP and I couldn't get on w/ WinXP's PPPoE as well.

Connection is bad in my area. Sometimes, I need to "dial" like 5 times in order to get a good connection.

pacbell is now SBC. I would stay away from it.

I am on $49 static IP plan and was hopping to see they would drop to $39 as other ISP did before the economy went down. However, I didn't know of such discount on pacbell before.
 
the plan they offered me was 49$ per month free equipment, lan modem, static ip address. and besides if it was ppoe you could always run a router that does ppoe like a linksys.

I've set up a number of friends and I have to strongly disagree with you, I have nothing for praise for their service ONCE it gets connected. The circus of their administration and installation divisions aside I think my SBC/Pacbell DSL service has been down twice in the last three years, and I use it alot.

As for it not working with XP- you don't need their software, XP has built in PPPoE support, just configure and go. I haven't had any trouble with XP in that regard.

You should pick up a PPPoE capable router, preferrably one with 802.11. You can send a keep alive packet out every 5 minutes or so to keep it connected forever.

I got connected in Oct 98 when they originally offered DSL, I'm not really sure of when they raised rates?

where can I find infomations about the $75 AE rebate offer? Anyone know the URL I can look for?
 
I had Pacbell DSL in San Jose, near aborn road, and my service started out GREAT. It was uncapped and I had a 1.2megabit download, which translates roughly to about 150KB/s, it was great. BUT somehow my service degraded over the course of the year, it lost line sync everynight at about 7 ish. I had them create a trouble ticket, after some tinkering, they said they had to cap my line to 768 for it to continue to work. They did it, it didn't work. They followup with a 384kbps cap, still lost line sync, they had a technician come over and take a look, no problems. They said they couldn't do anything else, and so I said I didn't want it anymore, and that was that. Service was great for the first couple of months though. I got on their 39.95 promo, quite a while ago. Decent deal now though, hope it works out for everyone.

I get these speeds at college though so I'm not complaining 🙂 It's even better off peak, 6 megabit download, 8 megabit upload.

baloobear --just sent it to you. I used it 10 days ago, and i'm know waiting for the 'starter kit' to arrive. Works with any AE card...
 
PPOE is suck!!! Stay away from SBC. I had the chance to try their services just to find that i get discounted every 15minutes during peak hours. Customer services aways puts you on hold for the longest time plus most of those tech idiots don't know what the hell is going on. they keep on suggesting to restart my comp and try again(If you dont have enough IPs for your customer chances are you'll not get one). :| PPOE software sucks the big one if you ask me and its nothing compared to cable unless you pay for the Platinum services.

Ive had pacbell DSL in the north bay area for a year and a 1/2 now. Not one complaint.
Works awesome, super stable. Only the best things to say about it.
My ip is always in one of two ranges which is good for certain things.
I use a special dialup protocol which tricks windows into thinking my dsl is a dialup connection for the PPPOE.
you can get it here, RASPPPOE PPP over Ethernet Protocol for Windows 98/98SE/ME/2000/XP/2002
highy recommended and easy to setup, works on ALL window platforms.

Its not uncommon for me to stay connected to pacbells servers for 2 weeks straight (24/7).
Every 2 weeks get disconnected for a minute, but my connection is on auto redial
so over the last year ive prolly only been disconnected for a few hours total.
Pretty good to considering my connection is never idle.

By now you're about 95% off then? You're better than Macy's at 2 a.m.

Get a router that pings via pppoe, seriously. I've hooked up a bunch of people that are in their sixth month of the same ppoe session.

I got Pacbell DSL about two years ago, and have been paying $39/month. They just sent me a letter saying my "one year contract" was up and my rate is now $49. I would switch over (especially because I'd rather have the DSL on a different phone line) but I LOVE my static IP. It seems much more reliable and easier to deal with than my friends' dynamic pac bell connections. And the speed is outstanding -- 1.x mg. I don't know if it's an accident, but the folks I know with dynamic pacbell service have signigicantly slower connections.

So I'm annoyed but I think I'll stay put.
 
Welcome! Don't hesitate to call them to confirm before using it, they told me that they will issue the $75 credit when the fiirst bill goes through.
