I just got a form for my Pa Driver's License Renewal. They want $26.00. Is this new?

My license runs out in march of 2008 and this will be the 2nd time I've had to renew it.
I don't remember getting this form last time or having to pay anything.

I just remember going to the center and getting my pic taken and getting a new license.

At first I thought it was for registration but that's $36 so I looked closer and it's for driver's license renewal.

Checked out PennDOT's site and apparently this is how they do it now:

Step 1: Receive an Invitation to Renew (DL60A/DL60R) or obtain Form DL-143.

Step 2: Return completed application with a check or money order made payable to PennDOT in the amount indicated on the form.

Step 3: A camera card will be mailed, and you should receive it within seven to ten working days after form is processed.

Step 4: Once you receive your camera card, you will need to take it along with your Social Security card and appropriate identification to any Photo Center to receive new digitized driver?s license.

Down here in GA, which really doesn't help you a bit, they send out a renewal you can send in and they will renew your license, and send you a new one. I believe it's only if you had your picture taken on your previous one.

That's the two step process, although you can probably handle step one entirely on-line, as you can, at least, with your car registration.

yep, thats the process. Do that vs doing it all at the dmv. when you are at the dmv its two separate lines, one to get the photo card and one to actully get the photo taken. I forogot do get my photo card in the mail, and it took almost 45-60 to get a new ID b/c of the two lines i had to wait on. save your self sometime by getting that photo card mailed to you

I just renewed my license, and yeah that's exactly the process. You send them a check for $26 along with the application, they send you a photo card (kinda looks like a learner's permit and is valid for 30 days (I think) after your license expires), you show up at the DMV, take a ticket for the photo place-- they call you up, you get your pic taken, print out your new license, and you're good to go.

Yup, I am from PA and got my renewed close to 2 years ago and I just went to the dmv with a $26 check. They took my photo, verified my information and was out in less than 10 minutes

I don't know if costs have changed, but every state I have lived in charges fees for your license. $26 doesn't sound too bad, considering your license lasts for a few years at a time.

That $26 should be for 4 years. At $6.50 a year it's one of the few things PA doesn't gouge you for.

My Kahleeforneeya CDL (class A) costs me $34 for 5 years. A class C license (autos and light trucks) costs $27 for 5 years.

My last GA license renewal I did back in 05 is good for 10 years, and cost 35 or 36 dollars.
